The City of Hudson is seeking a motivated and dependable Public Works Technician specializing in Wastewater Utility operations to join our municipal team. This position is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of wastewater treatment systems, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and supporting the City’s essential public infrastructure.
The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to work with technical systems, and a commitment to protecting public health and the environment. This role provides a meaningful opportunity to serve the community through critical utility services.
This position primarily focuses on the maintenance, repair, and construction of the City’s wastewater infrastructure. Responsibilities include working at the wastewater treatment plant, maintaining lift stations and sewer lines, and assisting with the upkeep of city streets and other public facilities as needed.
Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor wastewater treatment equipment, including pumps, valves, and control systems.
- Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on wastewater collection and treatment infrastructure.
- Collect data related to water quality parameters, process performance, and system efficiency for analysis and reporting.
- Conduct heavy equipment operation necessary for construction, repair, or maintenance activities within the wastewater utility.
- Assist in the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of plumbing fixtures and mechanical components involved in water treatment processes.
- Manage tankers and other heavy machinery used for transporting waste or materials as part of operational duties.
- Support water treatment processes by performing basic math calculations, analysis of data trends, and troubleshooting system issues.
- Engage in construction projects related to sewer lines, pump stations, or other infrastructure improvements.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment repairs, and operational logs.
- Ensure safety protocols are followed during all activities involving heavy lifting, equipment operation, or hazardous materials.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification in wastewater treatment or related fields is preferred.
- Mechanical knowledge related to pumps, valves, piping systems, and general equipment repair. (Preferred)
- Ability to operate heavy machinery such as loaders, backhoes, tankers, and other construction equipment safely and effectively.
- Familiarity with water treatment processes including filtration, chemical dosing, disinfection, and sludge management.
- Physical ability to perform heavy lifting tasks regularly while adhering to safety standards.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail in troubleshooting operational issues.
- Valid driver's license. (must have upon hire)
- The ability to obtain a Texas Wastewater Class C license

Schedule
- Primary Shift: Daytime, Monday – Friday 8am-5pm.
- Availability: Must be available for emergency call-outs on nights and weekends as needed
