Glenbrook North High School is currently seeking applicants to fill an Assistant Speech Coach position for the 2026–2027 school year.
The primary role of the Assistant Speech Coach involves the nurturing of student competitor skills in the communication arts. Familiarity with all fourteen individual events and proficiency in at least three specific events are required. The goal is a well-rounded coaching staff that attends to the needs of all fourteen events offered in competition by the IHSA. The duties for individual events coaches are as follows:

Attend auditions to assemble a team.

Coaching assigned students at least once per week.

Attend a minimum of three invitational tournaments.
-
Ride the bus with students. Bus supervision will be split amongst all coaches equally.

Supervise and support competitors at tournaments.

Judge as needed at invitational tournaments.

Read critiques and share appropriate feedback with competitors.

Attend Regional and Sectional competitions from morning judges’ meetings through the awards ceremony.

Assist with the reading and cutting of selection of performance materials where appropriate.

Proofread student-generated speeches and offer feedback when necessary.

Attend weekly team meetings to offer coaching sign-up for team members.

Maintain email contact with students and parents to answer questions throughout the season.

Assist in the selection of Regional team members by viewing selected performances in all fourteen events throughout the season.

Attend the end of the season banquet.

Additional reasonable duties as they might arise throughout the season.
