Duties
- Prepare the operating room by sterilizing and arranging surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies, ensuring all tools are ready for use
- Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments, suturing wounds, and managing surgical supplies with precision and care
- Maintain strict aseptic techniques to prevent healthcare-associated infections and uphold infection control standards throughout surgeries
- Monitor patient vital signs such as blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen levels, and respiratory status during procedures to ensure stability
- Collect and document data related to surgical procedures, patient responses, and equipment usage in electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical records
- Assist with the treatment of fractures, trauma care, orthopedic surgeries, and other specialized procedures requiring detailed anatomy knowledge
- Operate medical equipment safely and efficiently while adhering to hospital policies on infection prevention and control
Skills
- Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and surgical procedures across various specialties including cardiovascular, neurosurgery, orthopedics, pediatrics, and endoscopy
- Proven experience assisting in Level I or Level II trauma centers with emergency medicine scenarios and acute care procedures
- Skilled in handling surgical instruments such as scalpels, forceps, retractors, sutures, and specialized orthopedic tools
- Strong understanding of medical equipment sterilization processes and proper handling techniques to maintain a sterile environment
- Ability to analyze patient data quickly to assist in critical decision-making during surgeries or trauma situations
- Familiarity with hospital information systems (EHR) for accurate documentation of patient care activities
- Competence in performing suturing techniques and managing complex cases involving treatment of fractures or trauma injuries
- Excellent patient care skills with a focus on comfort, safety, and effective communication within multidisciplinary teams
