POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Performs delegated functions and delivers nursing care in an organized manner to groups of patients in compliance with hospital and nursing department policies, protocols, and procedures. Provides patient care based on the nursing process and monitors behavioral and physiological status. Demonstrates patient-centered care. Demonstrates knowledge and skill in meeting age-related and handicapped patients' needs.
2. Is accountable for maintaining and improving own nursing knowledge and skills. Participates in Quality Improvement activities.
3. Is responsible for the development and coordination of nursing orientation to the individual units.
4. Assists with Nurse Staffing.
5. Assigns nursing staff to perform activities to ensure the smooth operation of nursing units.
6. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing and experience at a Level IV Trauma facility.
Required Certification: Registration with the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas; BLS certification; ACLS required, PALS or ENPC required, TNCC required.
Physical Demands: Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking. Lifts, positions, pushes, and/or transfers patients. Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and/or crouching.
Work Schedule: When assigned to day shift requires working 0645 to 1915, with one 30-minute meal break and two 15 min breaks. When assigned to night shift requires working 1845 to 0715, with one 30 minute meal break and two 15-minute breaks. Before starting any break, notify the Charge Nurse so that interruption will be minimized with the exception of a major emergency i.e. Code Blue. The rotation and coverage include holidays and weekends.
Working Conditions: Regularly exposed to risk of diseases. Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances. Exposed unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries, and illness). Subject to varying and unpredictable situations. Able to handle and provide care during emergency or crisis situations. Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries. Subjected to extensive work hours.
