Position Overview
We are seeking a versatile Welder/Fabricator with strong Industrial Mechanical aptitude to join our team in Lakeland. This is not a "bench-only" role; you will be responsible for complex fabrication, structural repairs, and mechanical troubleshooting. A primary requirement for this role is proficiency in Air Carbon Arc Gouging for weld removal and metal preparation.
Key Responsibilities
- Must be certified to AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code and demonstrate proficiency by passing a weld qualification test in SMAW (stick) and FCAW (flux-cored) processes, both in the 3G (vertical up) and 4G (overhead) positions.
- Precision Fabrication: Layout, cut, and fit-up complex metal assemblies using blueprints, shop drawings, and manual sketches.
- Multi-Process Welding: High-quality welding in MIG (GMAW), Stick (SMAW), and Flux-Core (FCAW) on carbon and stainless steel.
- Arc Gouging: Expertly perform Air Carbon Arc Gouging (CAC-A) to remove old welds, back-gouge joints for full penetration, and prep surfaces for heavy-duty repair.
- Mechanical Maintenance: Assist in the teardown, repair, and reassembly of industrial machinery, including gearboxes, conveyors, and hydraulic components.
- Field & Shop Work: Ability to work in a shop environment or perform on-site industrial repairs using mobile welding rigs and rigging equipment.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience: 3+ years in industrial welding and fabrication.
- Gouging Proficiency: Proven ability to use carbon arc equipment safely and effectively without damaging base materials.
- Mechanical Aptitude: Comfortable using wrenches, alignment tools, and diagnostic equipment; understanding of basic industrial mechanics is highly preferred.
- Equipment Mastery: Skilled in the use of plasma cutters, oxy-acetylene torches, ironworkers, and grinders.
- Blueprint Literacy: Must be able to read and interpret welding symbols and structural schematics.
- Travel Required: Must be able to travel overnight and extended periods of time up to 20% and in-shop up to 80%
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in the Florida heat/industrial environments.
- Reliable transportation to the Lakeland/Polk County area.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and weld test (6G, 3G, 4G combo with Flux and Stick).
Pay: $27.00 - $33.00 per hour
