About Amani Public Charter School
Amani Public Charter School serves students in grades K–2 and 5–8 in Mount Vernon, NY. Our mission is to provide students with the academic skills necessary to succeed in competitive high school programs, college, and the career of their choice. Position Overview
We are currently seeking a passionate Middle School ELA Teacher to join our team for the 2026–27 school year. ELA teachers at Amani are expected to deliver rigorous, engaging instruction aligned to New York State standards, build students’ reading and writing proficiency, and support academic growth through data-informed teaching strategies. This position requires a flexible, student-centered educator who values collaboration, equity, and high expectations for all learners.
Responsibilities
- Utilize the provided curriculum to create engaging, rigorous, and differentiated lessons
- Implement standards-aligned formative and summative assessments to monitor progress and guide instruction
- Analyze student performance data to inform planning and instruction
- Develop lesson plans that can be delivered in-person and virtually
- Maintain online classrooms and resources via Google Classroom
- Attend weekly planning and data meetings with coach and grade-level teams
- Participate in weekly schoolwide professional development sessions
- Manage student data using platforms such as SchoolTool, Kickboard, and Google Suite
- Uphold school wide behavioral expectations using a consistent system of rewards and consequences
- Foster a structured, joyful classroom environment aligned to the school’s core values
- Communicate effectively and consistently with students, families, and colleagues
- Support schoolwide events and grade-level initiatives throughout the year
- Participate in a two-week summer orientation and training program
Location and Commitments
- School day is 7:45 AM - 4:00 PM, Monday – Friday
- School year runs from the third week in August through the end of June
- This role is based in-person in Mount Vernon, NY and may require occasional remote instruction
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field
- New York State Teaching Certification in English Language Arts
- Proficiency in Google Suite and online learning platforms
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Education or a related field
- At least 2 years of successful middle school teaching experience
- Strong classroom management skills and a commitment to equity and culturally responsive teaching
