Top Grade Transport is currently seeking a qualified Heavy Equipment and Diesel Mechanic to join our Shop department that has a keen eye for detail, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
The Heavy Equipment & Diesel Mechanic plays a critical role in maintaining the peak performance of our fleet, including diesel trucks, and trailers. This position requires a hands-on professional dedicated to high-quality diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance in both shop and field environments.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintenance & Repair: Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, suspension, and air brake systems on a variety of heavy equipment and diesel vehicles.
- Preventative Care: Perform routine inspections and scheduled servicing to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
- Technical Expertise: Apply deep knowledge of engines, transmissions, fuel systems, and undercarriages/track systems to complex repairs.
- Field Response: Respond promptly to emergency breakdowns in the field or at the shop to ensure project continuity.
- Documentation: Read and interpret technical manuals and schematics; accurately maintain maintenance logs, time records, and parts documentation.
- Safety & Environment: Conduct thorough safety checks, follow all protocols, and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Communication: Clearly communicate repair needs, job status, and safety concerns with supervisors and operators.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
Technical Skills & Experience
- Proven Experience: Demonstrated proficiency in diesel engine and heavy equipment repair. 5+ years of experience with semi-tractors and trailers is a plus (end-dump experience is not required).
- Diagnostics: Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to accurately diagnose air brake issues using Cummins Insite and CAT ET diagnostic software.
- Fabrication: Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.
- Personal Tools: Must own a personal set of basic hand tools (up to 1" and 24mm). Specialty and large-scale equipment/tools are provided.
Certifications & Licensure
- Brake & Inspection: Must currently possess -or be willing to obtain -State Inspection and Brake Certifications.
- Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. A Class A CDL with a manual endorsement is a significant plus.
