In-Person Certified Elementary Tutor – Georgia Promise Scholarship

Job Summary
We are seeking a patient, dependable, and qualified certified teacher to provide in-person academic instruction to a homeschooled first-grade student with an Individualized Education Program (IEP).
The position will generally include two-hour tutoring sessions twice per week. We are looking for an educator interested in providing consistent, ongoing support throughout the school year and potentially beyond first grade.
Sessions may be held in the student’s dedicated home learning room, at a local library, or at another mutually agreed-upon professional or educational location.
The student is a Georgia Promise Scholarship award recipient. Payment for tutoring services will be made exclusively through the Georgia Promise Scholarship program. The selected tutor must be registered and approved as an eligible Georgia Promise Scholarship provider before paid services begin.
Applicants who are not currently registered may still apply but must be willing and eligible to complete the provider registration process before the anticipated October 2026 start date.
Responsibilities
- Provide individualized, in-person instruction at the first-grade level.
- Support the student’s IEP goals and identified learning needs.
- Provide instruction in core subjects such as reading, phonics, writing, spelling, and mathematics.
- Use engaging, age-appropriate, and evidence-based teaching strategies.
- Adjust lessons based on the student’s learning style, abilities, and progress.
- Provide a structured, encouraging, and positive learning environment.
- Communicate with the parent regarding progress, concerns, and recommended areas of focus.
- Maintain dependable attendance and provide reasonable notice regarding scheduling changes.
- Use provided curriculum and educational materials or recommend additional materials when appropriate.
- Maintain any documentation required for payment through the Georgia Promise Scholarship program.
Schedule
- Two sessions per week
- Approximately two hours per session
- Approximately four instructional hours per week
- Days and times will be arranged based on mutual availability.
- Anticipated start date is October 2026.
- This is intended to be an ongoing position.
Tutoring Location
Tutoring sessions may be conducted:
- In the student’s home learning room
- At a local public library
- At another mutually agreed-upon place of business or dedicated educational space
The home learning area is set up specifically for instruction and includes access to a restroom and necessary learning materials.
We are also open to the tutor including the student in an appropriate small-group or joint learning session with a limited number of other students, provided that:
- The group is appropriate for the student’s age and academic level.
- The learning environment remains structured and supportive.
- The student continues to receive instruction that addresses their individual learning needs and IEP goals.
- The parent approves the group setting in advance.
- The arrangement complies with Georgia Promise Scholarship provider and payment requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Current teaching certification or another credential that qualifies the applicant to provide covered tutoring services through the Georgia Promise Scholarship program
- Experience teaching or tutoring elementary-aged students
- Experience working with students who have IEPs, learning differences, developmental needs, speech or language needs, or reading challenges
- Ability to provide in-person instruction
- Reliable transportation to the agreed-upon tutoring location
- Ability and willingness to meet all Georgia Promise Scholarship provider registration requirements
- Registration and approval as a Georgia Promise Scholarship provider before paid services begin
- Ability to accept payment through the Georgia Promise Scholarship program
Preferred Qualifications
- Elementary education or special education certification
- Experience teaching first-grade students
- Experience with structured literacy, phonics, decoding, blending, reading fluency, and early mathematics
- Experience providing instruction to homeschooled students
- Familiarity with IEP goals, accommodations, progress monitoring, and individualized instruction
- Experience teaching students in one-on-one and small-group settings
Compensation
Compensation is expected to range from $25 to $30 per hour, depending on the tutor’s qualifications, certification, experience, proposed instructional arrangement, and Georgia Promise Scholarship-approved rate. Through GA Promise you can create tutoring packages per session or multiple sessions. We like for you to create monthly package where you will be paid upfront for those number of sessions.
Payment will be made exclusively using the student’s Georgia Promise Scholarship funds. Applicants must be approved to receive payment through the program. Private or out-of-pocket payment outside of the Georgia Promise Scholarship program is not available for this position.
Materials
Curriculum, instructional materials, supplies, and access to the student’s current educational information will be provided as needed. The tutor may also recommend additional materials or resources that support the student’s educational goals.
