American Family Care (AFC)
Founded in 1982 with a single location, American Family Care (AFC) pioneered the concept of non-emergency room care, providing treatment for injuries and illnesses in a convenient, lower-cost setting. Headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, AFC has grown into the nation’s leading provider of accessible healthcare, with more than 400 company-owned and franchised centers across the United States, caring for over 3.5 million patients annually.
Position Summary
As Director of Talent Acquisition, you will report directly to AFC’s Head of HR and lead the continued evolution and operationalization of our TA landscape: the systems, processes, team development and strategy that will shape the long-term talent attraction vision for one of the fastest-growing urgent care delivery networks in the country.
This is a role for someone who builds scalable solutions, drives accountability, uses data to influence change and raises the bar for TA/Operations collaboration. Every unfilled role affects our patient care experience, so focused energy on urgency and impact is key to success.
Essential Responsibilities
Build the Recruiting Engine
- Partner with the HR Leadership Team to design and scale AFC's Talent Acquisition operating model across clinics, corporate, and field operations.
- Direct the evolution of recruiting workflows that support growth and continuity across clinical operation, clinic development/real estate, revenue cycle, IT, and corporate shared service functions.
- Design and operationalize recruiting SLAs, hiring scorecards, interviewer accountability, and executive dashboards — including provider and clinic-level TA performance metrics.
- Create scalable recruiter playbooks, intake processes, and hiring manager enablement for both clinical and non-clinical leaders.
Drive Critical Hiring
- Coach hiring leaders — including Medical Directors and Regional/Clinic Directors — on calibration, talent assessment, and decision quality.
- Improve the offer-to-start new hire experience across all organizational hiring
- Build pipelines in constrained healthcare labor markets across the U.S., including licensure and credentialing-sensitive markets
Build Talent Intelligence
- Develop market maps, competitor intelligence (urgent care, retail health, primary care), and workforce planning insights.
- Use data to predict hiring risk, bottlenecks, and clinic staffing capacity constraints before they affect patient access or hours of operation.
- Build reporting that allows leadership to see talent risk before it becomes operational or clinical-coverage risk.
Scale What Works
- Evaluate and optimize recruiting tech, staffing partnerships, sourcing channels, and employer branding for a multi-site healthcare organization
- Recruit, coach, and eventually lead an expanded TA team as AFC's clinical footprint continues to grow
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resource Management, Healthcare Administration, or related field
- 7+ years of progressive recruitment leadership experience
- Proven success in building teams and functional credibility
- Experience with ATS and ever-developing HR tech stacks
