Lead Leaders. Grow Businesses. Make an Impact.
At Village Pet Care, great pet care starts with great leadership.
We’re looking for an experienced District Manager to lead a portfolio of pet resorts in the Charlotte, NC market. Someone who knows how to develop strong General Managers, build accountable teams, improve business performance, and create consistently exceptional experiences for pets and the people who love them.
This isn't a role for someone who wants to manage the business from behind a desk.
Our District Managers are visible, hands on, field based leaders, operating from an assigned resort, who understand what’s happening inside their locations, know their teams, understand their numbers, and help General Managers turn opportunities into results.
You’ll maintain a designated home site while providing leadership across approximately 3–6 additional pet resort locations.
If you're a proven multi-unit operator who loves developing leaders, improving businesses, and being close enough to the operation to make a difference, we'd love to meet you.
What You'll Own
Lead and Develop Great General Managers
Your greatest impact will come through the leaders you develop.
You’ll coach and hold General Managers accountable for their people, operations, guest experience, and business results while building the next generation of leaders across your district.
That means creating clear expectations, establishing strong operating rhythms, strengthening leadership bench and succession planning, and stepping in when a location or leader needs additional support.
Own the Business
You'll have responsibility for the performance of your district, including:
- Revenue growth and profitability
- Labor management and productivity
- District and location-level P&L performance
- Operational KPIs and performance trends
- Pricing, service mix, and local market opportunities
- Action plans for locations that aren't performing to expectations
We’re looking for someone who is comfortable with numbers but knows that sustainable results are ultimately driven through people.
Be Present in the Field
You'll spend significant time inside your resorts not simply reviewing them from afar.
You'll work from a resort location and regularly visit locations, observe operations firsthand, connect with leaders and team members, assess safety and service standards, and identify opportunities before they become larger problems.
When a location needs help, you'll know how to diagnose what's happening, establish a plan, and work alongside the General Manager to get the business moving in the right direction.
Create Consistency Without Losing Local Leadership
Each pet resort has its own team and community, but our expectations around pet safety, quality of care, guest experience, leadership, and operational discipline must remain consistently high.
You'll help translate company strategy into strong field execution while partnering with Operations, Finance, HR, Talent Acquisition, Marketing, and Data & Digital teams to support your locations.
The Leader We're Looking For
You may already be leading multiple pet resorts or you may come from another multi-location, service-oriented business within the pet care vertical where customer experience, people leadership, operational execution, and financial performance all matter.
What matters most is that you've demonstrated the ability to lead leaders and businesses across multiple locations in animal care.
You'll Bring:
- 5+ years of multi-unit leadership or significant senior site leadership experience
- Demonstrated success coaching and developing General Managers or comparable location leaders
- Strong P&L ownership and the ability to drive revenue, labor efficiency, and profitability
- Experience using KPIs and business data to identify opportunities and drive action
- Strong operational instincts and the ability to balance people, process, performance, and customer experience
- A track record of building accountable, high-performing teams and leadership pipelines
- Confidence navigating difficult employee, guest, and operational situations
- Strong communication, prioritization, and decision-making skills
- Comfort working with POS, scheduling, reporting, and other business technology
- The ability to thrive in a growing, fast-moving organization where priorities can evolve
Experience in pet care, veterinary services, pet hospitality, consumer services, retail services, another multi-location service business is especially relevant.
Most importantly, you'll bring genuine enthusiasm for creating exceptional experiences for pets, pet parents, and the teams who care for them.
The Realities of the Role
Pet resorts operate seven days a week, and strong field leadership requires flexibility.
This position involves approximately 60–75% travel, primarily among locations within the assigned district, with occasional overnight or out-of-market travel.
Our District Manager must also be comfortable stepping into the operation when needed. That can mean spending extended periods walking facilities, interacting safely with pets of different sizes and temperaments, supporting operational activities, and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.
Evenings, weekends, and holidays may occasionally require leadership support based on business needs.
What Success Looks Like
You'll know you're making an impact when:
- Your General Managers are stronger because of your leadership.
- Your district has a healthy pipeline of future leaders.
- Revenue, labor efficiency, and profitability are trending in the right direction.
- Locations consistently deliver high standards of safety, care, and guest experience.
- Underperforming locations have clear plans—and measurable improvement.
- Problems are identified early rather than becoming surprises.
- Your teams understand what great looks like and are accountable for delivering it.
Ready to Lead the Next Level?
If you're energized by leading leaders, developing teams, improving businesses, and creating outstanding service experiences in pet care this could be an exciting next step.
Bring your multi-site leadership experience to Village Pet Care and help us continue building exceptional pet resorts, exceptional leaders, and exceptional experiences for the families we serve.
