Job Summary
The E & I Technician performs electrical and instrumentation maintenance activities and projects. Skilled in the fabrication, installation, inspection, testing, adjustment and repair of electronic, electro-mechanical, and pneumatic control circuits and systems. Systems could include, but not limited to: AC/DC motor controls, process loop instruments, PLCs, MCCs and switch gear. These systems are used to record, indicate, and control the operation of various machines, including process measurement and control instrumentation.
Essential Responsibilities
- Must be able to work a minimum of 8 hours including days, nights, weekends, and holidays, and schedule changes as the business requires. Must be able to work overtime as required. Must respond to maintenance call-ins.
- Must be able to follow oral and written instructions from all management.
- Must be able to recognize audio and visual equipment alarms, safety alarms and safety hazards; as well as be an active participant in the corporation’s safety programs.
- Identify safety hazards and take corrective actions as necessary
- Must be clean shaven for the respiratory program
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Actively participate in plant shutdown work
- Calibrate, test, maintain, troubleshoot, and install all plant instrumentation, control systems and electrical equipment
- Perform maintenance on motor control centers, motor control circuits, generators, and motors (up to 480VAC)
- Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on equipment, coordinating work with various team members
- Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on control valves and their components.
- Calibration of various gas monitoring equipment
- Experience working with DC backup power equipment (UPS), process controls (Delta-V), programmable logic controls (PLC) and emission monitoring equipment (O2 analyzers)
- Perform equipment and system tagging in accordance with company and plant rules and regulations
- Participate in projects in coordination with our Technical Services Department
- Read and interpret drawings, sketches, prints and specifications as required
- Identify parts as needed to affect maintenance and repair
- Work with outside contractors on specific tasks as required
- Comply with all site safety and environmental requirements and procedures
- Perform operations in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and prudent safety standards
- Perform plant electrical switching and lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) of equipment in accordance with approved procedures and prudent operations and maintenance best practices
- Develop, assist, and revise operations and maintenance related procedures to ensure optimal performance of systems
- Perform and maintain plant housekeeping duties

Required Qualifications
- Electrical/Mechanical technical certification is strongly preferred, as is Apprentice or Journeyman Electrician status.
- A minimum 6 years’ experience as an E&I Technician or equivalent; including experience with installing, calibrating, troubleshooting and maintaining process instrumentation for measuring and controlling flow, pressure, temperature and level.
- Working knowledge of NEC (National Electrical Code) book.
- Extensive experience with conduit, both ridged and EMT threaded pipefittings, pipe treading machine, installing conduit, pulling wire through various size conduits.
- Experience with electrical wire types, sizes and its different uses.
- PLC experience, power up and troubleshoot 4-20ma loop, digital in-put, digital out-put loops.
- Experience with industrial Motor Control Center, 3 phase 480 volts..
- Experience with computerized maintenance systems, specifically SAP.
- Experience in operation and maintenance of plant utilities (i.e. steam, compressed air, cooling towers, chillers, HVAC, etc.) a plus.

- Computer literate in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel preferred.
- Work Experience at a chemical plant preferred.
- Heavy equipment operation experience a plus
Physical Requirements
- Ability to manually lift and move up to 50 lbs. throughout shift. Ability to transport heavy tools and equipment to perform assigned jobs.
- Ability to work within an environment that requires bending, stooping, climbing, pushing/pulling, reaching (at or above shoulder height), twisting at the waist.
- Ability to work in an environment with the following conditions; chemical and mechanical operations, confined spaces, dust and fumes, working within safe but close proximity to forklift and machine operations, exposure to heat and humidity, hearing or talking around loud machinery, and wearing personal protective equipment
- Ability to work in high places.
