Project Engineer
Commercial Construction | Full-Time | Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
Our client, a growing commercial construction firm known for developing talent and keeping people long-term, is looking for an experienced Project Engineer to take ownership of project documentation from groundbreaking to closeout. This is the person every project runs through — the one who reads the drawings, catches the discrepancies, and makes sure nothing falls through the cracks. If you're the type who color-codes your submittal log for fun, we want to talk to you.
- Join a company in active growth mode with a strong track record of retaining and developing its people.
- Step into a well-defined role with real ownership over documentation, submittals, and RFIs — not just admin support.
- Profit-sharing bonus history: every team member has earned a bonus for 10 consecutive years, ranging 2–7% based on company profit and individual contribution.
The Project Engineer supports the Project Manager and Superintendent in planning, coordinating, documenting, and executing commercial construction projects. This role owns project documentation — from startup paperwork through drawing revisions to closeout — while managing submittals, RFIs, permitting, and schedule coordination. The Project Engineer is the communication hub connecting field personnel, office staff, owners, architects, engineers, and subcontractors, ensuring every project is delivered safely, on schedule, on budget, and to spec.
Documentation & Project Administration
- Read and interpret contract documents, architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and subcontract agreements.
- Own drawing revisions and distribute current printed drawings to the field superintendent.
- Maintain organized, audit-ready project files for the full project lifecycle in Procore (or similar platform).
- Prepare and distribute meeting agendas and minutes; maintain drawing and specification logs.
- Coordinate jurisdictional permitting and utility applications.
- Prepare project startup documentation and site signage.
Submittals & RFIs
- Build and assign project-specific submittal packages in Procore.
- Log, track, and verify subcontractor submittals against specifications before they go out.
- Prepare, submit, and manage RFIs; upload and link drawings for approved changes.
- Track responses and distribute approved documents to the field and subcontractors promptly.
Scheduling & Coordination
- Coordinate subcontractor activities and sequencing with the Superintendent.
- Monitor procurement of long-lead materials and track deliveries against the schedule.
- Participate in weekly coordination meetings and owner meetings.
Cost Control
- Support the Project Manager with budgeting and cost tracking.
- Review subcontractor pay applications for completeness and accuracy.
- Assist with change order documentation, pricing backup, and tracking of PCOs/PCCOs through resolution.
Quality, Safety & Closeout
- Document and escalate quality issues; track punch list items through completion.
- Uphold company safety policy and OSHA standards; report unsafe conditions immediately.
- Coordinate closeout documentation, O&M manuals, warranties, and as-builts; support project turnover.
- Proven ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings — you'll walk through a live set in the interview.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Hands-on experience with Procore or comparable construction project management software.
- Sharp attention to detail with strong organization and follow-through — this role is the documentation backbone of every job.
- Clear, calm communicator who over-communicates and documents everything, even under pressure.
- Comfortable managing multiple priorities across office and active job-site environments.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Able to pass a clean background check and MVR.
- Medical, dental, and short-term life insurance — no cost to employee.
- 401(k) match: 100% on the first 3% deferred, plus 50% on the next 2%.
- Annual profit-sharing bonus: company has paid every team member a bonus for 10 straight years (2–7% based on profit and individual contribution).
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, with occasional extended hours to meet project deadlines.
- Split time between office settings and active commercial construction sites.
- Some travel between project sites required.
