Manager, U.S. Medical Affairs – Virology Scientific Collaboration
Contract Duration: 6 Months
Location: Remote; Foster City, CA or Parsippany, NJ preferred
Work Location Preference: Candidates located near a Kite/Gilead office are preferred
Position Overview
We are seeking a Manager, U.S. Medical Affairs (USMA) – Virology Scientific Collaboration to support U.S. Medical Affairs engagement with external professional societies, medical organizations, scientific partners, and other key stakeholders.
This role will partner closely with Liver Strategy and cross-functional USMA teams, with a focus on gastroenterology, hepatology, virology, and/or metabolic diseases. The successful candidate will help develop and execute congress strategies, scientific educational initiatives, medical booth activities, and external collaborations.
Key Responsibilities
Partner with Liver Strategy to lead engagements with external medical societies and scientific organizations.
Develop engagement strategies and key initiatives with scientific and educational organizations.
Support medical booth strategy and execution at major medical congresses.
Drive conference strategy, including conference allocations and centralized planning.
Collaborate cross-functionally with USMA, Commercial, Legal, Medical Governance, Public Affairs, and Government Affairs.
Coordinate with Global Medical Affairs on key congress activities.
Develop medical education tools and congress symposia aligned with medical strategy.
Manage Medical Review Committee (MRC) review and approval of congress and booth materials.
Participate in strategic partnership meetings with Medical Affairs colleagues.
Ensure all activities comply with applicable legal, regulatory, ethical, and company requirements.
Required Qualifications
MD, PhD, PharmD, NP, PA, or other advanced healthcare degree.
1–3+ years of relevant experience in gastroenterology, hepatology, metabolic disorders, virology, or a related clinical field.
Strong understanding of Medical Affairs principles and practices.
Ability to build and manage relationships with professional societies, academic partners, scientific organizations, and other strategic stakeholders.
Strong strategic thinking, project management, and organizational skills.
Experience supporting congresses, medical booths, scientific meetings, or medical education initiatives.
Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills.
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
Strong understanding of regulatory, legal, and compliance requirements within Medical Affairs.
Preferred Qualifications
2+ years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience.
Experience working with MRC/PRC review processes.
Experience developing compliant scientific and medical communications.
Previous experience with virology, hepatology, gastroenterology, liver disease, or metabolic disease.
Experience working with external medical societies and scientific organizations.
Experience managing complex, cross-functional projects and congress strategy.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have a strong Medical Affairs background within the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry, an advanced healthcare/scientific degree, and experience in virology, hepatology, gastroenterology, or metabolic disease. Experience with medical congresses, external scientific organizations, medical education, and MRC/PRC review processes is highly desirable
