We're looking for a Software Controls Engineer to join a growing automation team designing and delivering complex, high-speed automated systems. This is more than just a PLC programming role; you'll be involved throughout the entire project lifecycle, from concept and software architecture through commissioning and customer handover.
You'll work on technically challenging projects involving robotics, motion control, vision systems, and advanced material handling, while also helping mentor junior engineers and driving engineering best practices across the team.
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, and integrate PLC and HMI software using Siemens TIA Portal and Rockwell Studio 5000.
- Develop control architectures, motion control strategies, and machine safety functions for automated manufacturing systems.
- Lead software integration, FAT, SAT, commissioning, and startup activities at customer sites.
- Troubleshoot and optimize machine performance during testing and production.
- Review and validate control system code, ensuring consistency, quality, and adherence to engineering standards.
- Work closely with mechanical, electrical, and project engineering teams to deliver fully integrated automation systems.
- Mentor junior controls engineers, providing technical guidance and support.
- Act as a technical point of contact during customer design reviews, commissioning, and training.
- Produce clear documentation including functional specifications, software documentation, and operating manuals.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, helping develop engineering standards and best practices.
What We're Looking For
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent industry experience.
- Strong PLC and HMI programming experience with Siemens TIA Portal and/or Rockwell Studio 5000.
- Experience with servo motion control, robotics integration, machine safety, and industrial networking (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP).
- Background commissioning and troubleshooting automated equipment in a manufacturing environment.
- Comfortable working directly with customers and cross-functional engineering teams.
- Willingness to travel approximately 20–30% throughout the U.S. and Canada.
