JOB SUMMARY:
Functions as the first point of contact for patients to assist them in their medical care. Performs activities related to scheduling, insurance verification and incoming and outgoing referrals to or within the Medical Center.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Schedule patients for testing or procedures. Instruct patients/offices on necessary preps for test.
2. Monitors automated call system reports to ensure all patients are contacted regarding appointments.
3. Collects information such as patient details, medical history, billing and insurance information.
4. Enters information into EHR and maintains accurate records
5. Communicates effectively with other departments to coordinate scheduling, referrals and other patient needs.
6. Informs patients and their caregivers of hospital procedures, policies and protocols when necessary.
7. Performs general administrative tasks related to scheduling, insurance eligibility and referrals.
8. Assists in improving organizational performance, scheduling appointments, and building good working relationships with areas and disciplines with the Medical Center systems.
9. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Experience in a clerical position preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance plans is beneficial. Strong administrative and organizational skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in data entry systems such as an EHR. Ability to multitask and maintain strong attention to detail. Compassionate and patient.
EDUCATION AND LICENSURE:
High school diploma or equivalency required. Two years patient registration experience preferred. Two years patient scheduling experience preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in well-lighted business office environment the majority of the time
There is a potential for being at risk of exposure to hazardous chemicals when working. Information regarding hazards and protective measures along with training on handling and storage of hazardous materials will be provided prior to initial assignment to work with hazardous chemicals, whenever the hazard changes , and on an annual basis.
