About MINT
The Mobile Integrative Navigation Team (MINT) is a grassroots nonprofit dedicated to serving
individuals experiencing homelessness and housing instability. We provide low-barrier shelter,
navigation services, outreach, medical navigation, peer support, meals, and connections to
housing, healthcare, behavioral health, and recovery. Our work is rooted in trauma-informed care,
harm reduction, dignity, and meeting people where they are.
Position Summary
The Certified Peer Support Specialist uses lived experience to build authentic relationships,
promote hope, and support participants in achieving self-defined goals. This position works
throughout MINT's Navigation Center, outreach program, and low-barrier shelter while helping
maintain a safe, welcoming, recovery-oriented environment. Certification is preferred but not
required at hire; MINT will support eligible employees in obtaining Oregon THW Peer Support
certification.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Peer Support & Engagement
- Build trusting relationships through empathy and lived experience.
- Encourage recovery, resilience, and self-determination.
- Provide mentoring, advocacy, emotional support, and active listening.
Shelter Operations
- Welcome residents, assist with orientations, wellness checks, meals, hygiene resources, and daily
operations.
- Help maintain a safe, respectful, trauma-informed environment.
Navigation & Advocacy
- Connect participants with housing, healthcare, benefits, treatment, employment, and community
resources.
- Assist with obtaining identification and completing referrals.
Crisis Response
- Utilize trauma-informed de-escalation.
- Recognize medical and behavioral health emergencies and notify appropriate staff.
Documentation
- Complete timely, accurate documentation while maintaining confidentiality and HIPAA
compliance.
Teamwork
- Collaborate with case managers, housing navigators, medical staff, outreach staff, and community
partners.
Required Qualifications
- Lived experience with recovery, homelessness, behavioral health, justice involvement, or other
significant life challenges.
- Compassion, professionalism, and strong boundaries.
- Ability to work in a low-barrier harm reduction environment.
- Strong communication and basic computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Oregon THW Peer Support Certification or willingness to obtain within 12 months with
organizational support.
- Experience in outreach, shelter operations, healthcare, behavioral health, or social services.
- Knowledge of local community resources.

Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, lift up to 30 pounds, work indoors and outdoors,
safely operate a vehicle if assigned outreach duties, and respond appropriately during
emergencies.
