Job Summary
Excavation Supervisor to lead our excavation division. This position plays a critical role in the success of our paving operations by ensuring every job site is properly prepared before asphalt placement.
We are looking for a hands-on leader who leads by example, takes pride in quality workmanship, and has extensive knowledge of excavation, grading, utilities, and site development. The ideal candidate will be capable of managing crews, operating equipment, communicating with customers, and ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and lead excavation crews on residential, commercial, and municipal projects.
- Prepare job sites for asphalt paving by ensuring proper excavation, grading, compaction, drainage, and base installation.
- Coordinate excavation activities with paving, milling, sealcoating, and striping crews.
- Read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, grade stakes, and project specifications.
- Plan daily work assignments and manage labor, equipment, and materials.
- Install and repair storm sewer systems, catch basins, culverts, and drainage structures.
- Install septic systems and sewer lines.
- Perform waterproofing and foundation excavation.
- Construct and repair ponds and water management systems.
- Install downspouts and drainage piping.
- Complete basement digs, final grading, and complete site development.
- Perform asphalt removals, demolition, and site clearing.
- Ensure proper subgrade preparation, aggregate placement, grading, and compaction to produce a quality finished paving surface.
- Operate and oversee the safe operation of excavators, dozers, skid steers, loaders, rollers, backhoes, dump trucks, and other heavy equipment.
- Coordinate utility locates and maintain safe excavation practices.
- Inspect job sites daily for quality, productivity, and safety.
- Conduct daily toolbox talks and enforce OSHA safety requirements.
- Train, mentor, and develop crew members.
- Complete daily production reports, equipment inspections, and job documentation.
- Communicate professionally with customers, inspectors, suppliers, and company management.
- Maintain equipment and report maintenance needs.
- Assist other departments when necessary.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of excavation experience.
- Previous experience as a Foreman or Supervisor required.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Site development
- Excavation
- Utility installation
- Storm drainage
- Sewer systems
- Septic systems
- Waterproofing
- Grading and compaction
- Aggregate base preparation
- Asphalt preparation
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and grade elevations.
- Experience operating heavy equipment.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to motivate employees and hold crews accountable.
- Valid driver's license required.
- CDL Class A preferred.
- Ability to work overtime and Saturdays during the construction season.
- Must be dependable, safety-minded, and committed to producing high-quality work.
