JOB SUMMARY:
The nurse is an integral part of the Center team. The major goal of the RN is to provide quality nursing care to the outpatients at the center. The nurse is qualified and prepared to handle all unexpected emergencies that occur during any imaging or interventional procedure. The nurse must be attuned to the diverse needs of the community such as language, ethnics, religious and sexual differences. The nurse must be familiar with the patient's bill of rights and seek assistance from other resources when needed to ensure individualized care. Skills used in your performance include clinical practice utilizing the nursing process, education, communication, leadership, collaboration/teamwork, research, performance improvement and management. The nurse ensures patient privacy, confidentiality, dignity and safety.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITION:
Work is performed in a procedure room setting and may require standing for long periods of time, including moving and positioning heavy equipment. Occasional lifting and pulling is required when assisting patients on and off the procedure table. It requires vigilance and diligence when monitoring patients for sudden or sullen changes during procedures. It is also necessary to view and type on a computer screen which requires correctable 20/20 vision and hearing must be in normal range for patient and co-worker contacts. Interactions with others are close and constant and work environment can be very stressful.

Performance Attributes
- Demonstrates knowledge of the specific conditions, disease and possible treatment (under the guidance of the Physician) of the needs of the patients served
- Perform and documents nursing procedures required by assignment consistent with Center's policies and procedures
- Perform pre-op phone calls to patients helping to ensure proper pre-op instructions are provided
- Responsible for taking the patient to the intake area upon arrival to the facility and assisting into chair or onto stretcher
- Responsible for performing intake history and checking for any changes in the history on return patients
- Responsible for performing a physical assessment (as appropriate) on patients scheduled for procedures at the Center and documenting findings
- Responsible for obtaining base line vital signs and EKG tracing to initiate admission process
- Responsible for communicating any abnormal findings with other colleagues as well as the procedure MD
- Complete appropriate intake information in preparation for the procedure and ensure that Informed Consent is obtained.
- Evaluate and document patient's response to previous procedures performed and communicate difficulties experienced during the performance of the procedure to aid the physician in their diagnosis
- Ensure allergies are notated, especially shellfish and previous contrast allergies
- Assist with patient transport from intake area to procedure suite to ensure safety and reduce waiting time
- Utilize patient safety device to prevent falling when indicated
- Prior to start of procedure, initiate a "procedural pause" to verify 'right patient - right procedure'
- Monitor the patient during the procedure and assess for any changes in condition and report such change to the Physician
- Maintain monitoring of the patient once conscious sedation medication has been administered by the Registered nurse/ Physician to ensure patient safety
- If needed, assist patient off of the procedure table to ensure safety and prevent injuries
- Responsible for recovery of patient post procedure by monitoring vital signs, EKG tracings and assessment of procedural site
- Write up post procedure instructions as directed by Physician and review with patient, family or significant other and provide a copy to the patient
- Responsible for checking with Physician on needed follow-up procedure date and ensure patient is scheduled for F/U appointment
- Initiate Occurrence Reports by end of day as applicable
Other Duties -
- Follow-up phone calls to patient 1-2 days post procedure
- Assist with billing of supplies for each procedure
- Demonstrate skill and knowledge base of all routine and specialized equipment used in the performance of duties
- Monitor supply and inventory levels so appropriate amounts of supplies are available for procedures. Notify Administrator/Director of supply levels
- Place order for supplies at least weekly. Send Purchase Order to Administrator / Director for approval and order
- Receive supplies, reconcile order and place in appropriate storage location
- Maintains confidentiality, security and integrity of patients and organizational data
- Assures all documents placed in the patient records are accurately identified with correct patient information and/or consent information
Infection Control
- Demonstrate knowledge of and complies with infection control policies as applicable
- Demonstrate knowledge of and adheres to transmission precautions
- Communicates actual infection control concerns to supervisor
- Demonstrate knowledge of Aseptic/Sterile technique required for procedures performed
Leadership
- Functions as a preceptor teaching formal lessons within the facility
- Interact with staff to make recommendations for improving delivery of services and care as it relates to the Center
- Take leadership role in response to emergencies or acute changes in patient status
- Discuss patient's care with physician and plans for appropriate interventions
