Job Description:
A childcare staff member works under the supervision of a lead teacher. Assistant teachers may work independently in a lead teacher's absence, but most of the time the assistant teacher works directly with the lead teacher in the same space with the same children. The assistant teacher works collaboratively with the lead teacher, administrator, and other childcare staff members to execute effective lessons and meet the needs of students while in our care.
Responsibilities:
· The assistant teacher is responsible for supporting the lead teacher in activity planning and implementing the curriculum requirements related to the current star rating level.
· Whenever the Lead Teacher is not on the premises, the assistant teacher is the designated person implementing the daily activities and plans.
· Follow program philosophy, policies, and standard practices of the program.
· Follow directions from administrator and reports directly to administrator with concerns and/or questions.
· Manage student behaviors using knowledge of child development and current best practices for discipline.
· Maintain a positive, clean, and engaging atmosphere for children.
· Apply Social and Emotional Learning Strategies
· Develop productive, positive, and trusting relationships with students and their families.
· Instruct students in proper classroom procedures and behavior.
· Maintain professional boundaries, speech, and interaction with co-workers, students, and administration.
Qualifications
- Prior experience preferred in working with children in settings such as daycare, camp, tutoring, or babysitting is highly desirable
- Knowledge of classroom management techniques and childhood development principles preferred
- Certification in first aid and CPR is preferred to ensure safety during emergencies
- Ability to engage children through creative activities like sports coaching or theater projects
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with staff, parents, and children
- Passion for working with students and fostering a positive learning environment
- The ability to apply for and attain all required certifications
