Multi-Trim Saw Operator

McVantage Packaging specializes in manufacturing, repairing, and recycling wooden pallets and crates servicing the Central-Southeastern U.S. from our plants in Tuscumbia, AL and Nashville, TN. Our Tuscumbia operation includes a scragg mill and various production stations for the manufacture and reprocessing of our lumber products and packaging product components. Both the Nashville and Tuscumbia operations are then able to assemble those products into our pallets, crates, and other products.
McVantage Packaging is looking for a Multi-Trim Operator to join our team in Tuscumbia, Alabama.
Description of responsibilities:
- Set up Multi-Trim saw.
- Review the specifications for the desired boards.
- Input measurements into the machine’s computer.
- Run a test piece.
- Measure the board.
- Adjust the machine’s settings so that the boards come out to meet the desired specifications.
- Run the machine.
- Watch and ensure that the machine operates as desired.
- Operate panelboards of saw and conveyor systems to move stock through processes to cut stock to specified dimensions.
- Flip incoming logs when necessary to ensure they go into the saw in the correct position.
- Listen for co-workers working on the output side of the machine to make sure they are not backed up.
- Ensure that the scrap belt is running and not jammed.
- Clear equipment jams.
- Maneuver workpieces in equipment during production.
- Clean production equipment.
- Use a shovel to clear sawdust from around the machine.
- Use a blower to remove sawdust from under the machine.
- Sweep up the sawdust.
Required skills:
- Read a tape measure.
- Convert fractions to a decibel format.
- Add and subtract.
- Read basic English.
- Prioritize safety.
- Listen for co-workers while operating the saw.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift at least 100 lbs. occasionally. Must be able to stand for the entire shift.
- Work safely around potentially dangerous machines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience: Machine operator. Especially at a sawmill or pallet manufacturer.
- Skills: Basic machine maintenance. (Cleaning, adjusting, changing parts to adjust specs)
