A well-established mechanical contractor is seeking an experienced Plumbing & Mechanical Piping Estimator to join its Special Projects team. This role focuses on fast-paced commercial plumbing and mechanical piping work, ranging from service retrofits and repairs to fast-track and mid-sized construction projects.
The ideal candidate has strong estimating experience within the mechanical trades, can take an opportunity from initial job walk through final proposal, and is comfortable working directly with general contractors, clients, vendors, and internal project teams.
- Prepare detailed estimates for commercial plumbing and mechanical piping projects
- Perform material and labor takeoffs from plans, specifications, and field conditions
- Attend job walks and evaluate existing conditions, project requirements, and potential risks
- Develop conceptual budgets and estimates when complete construction documents are not available
- Review drawings, specifications, addenda, and bid documents to establish complete project scopes
- Solicit and evaluate vendor, equipment, and subcontractor pricing
- Prepare competitive proposals, scope letters, exclusions, and clarifications
- Estimate service retrofits, repairs, renovations, and fast-track construction projects
- Prepare change order estimates and pricing throughout project execution
- Work closely with project management and field teams during project turnover
- Maintain relationships with general contractors, clients, vendors, and industry partners
- Support new business opportunities and help grow the Special Projects division
- Manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
- 5+ years of plumbing and/or mechanical piping estimating experience
- Strong knowledge of commercial plumbing and mechanical piping systems
- Experience estimating renovations, retrofits, special projects, or commercial construction preferred
- Ability to perform detailed labor and material takeoffs
- Experience with conceptual estimating and incomplete design documents preferred
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and construction documents
- Experience with Trimble AutoBid and Bluebeam preferred
- Strong understanding of material, equipment, subcontractor, and labor pricing
- Comfortable attending job walks and interacting directly with clients and general contractors
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple bids and fast-moving project opportunities
