SUMMARY: This position provides ophthalmology care; assists the physician on staff; assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the care rendered to patients with urgent, emergent or potential health problems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES include the following:

- Assists physicians and ensure maximum efficiency; perform preliminary screening for physical
review

Triage patients to ensure productive departmental flow.

Record health history of patients; updated medication list; note abnormal conditions for physician;

Prepare patients for exams and diagnostic testing
-
Ensure patient chart entries are made accurately and in a timely manner; forward chart as appropriate
-
Contact pharmacy or optical companies to order or refill prescriptions as instructed by physician, document appropriately
-
Schedule patients for surgery and in office appointment follow up; obtain necessary precertification
-
Schedule patients to other specialist offices; obtain appropriate referral as needed
-
Maintain adequate stock levels of medication samples and supplies
-
Set up and stock exam rooms for daily use
-
Keep rooms and equipment clean between procedures

Follow clinic policies for infection control in handling and disposing of infectious hazardous waste
material

Keep physician informed of patient's status
-
Demonstrate a working knowledge of auto-refractor, A-scans, IOL master, visual filed, fundus
photography and corneal topography
Return phone calls from patients in a timely manner per physician instruction, document
appropriately
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ability to calibrate and maintain all diagnostic equipment

Prepare surgery packs and surgical kits, label appropriately.

Adhere to Quality Control Guidelines, including all reports

Perform other tasks as needed, in assistance of Physician ~ Must have predictable and consistent attendance

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
-
1-3 years Ophthalmology experience preferred
