The Office of Continuing and Professional Studies at The City College of New York seeks a Part-Time GED Instructor for its WIOA grant-funded Adult Education Program. We serve a diverse student population and are committed to providing quality instruction that prepares students for academic and career success.
The successful candidate will use a variety of student-centered teaching techniques and methodologies, as well as technology to ensure that all students develop greater skills. The candidate should have the ability to communicate effectively with culturally and intellectually diverse students and create an engaging learning environment for students.
The candidate should have a solid knowledge of the current GED exam/curriculum and can create an energetic and interactive classroom environment that offers multiple opportunities for active learning to the students.
Responsibilities include:
- The instructor should perform these duties in a way that exhibits cultural sensitivity and attention to individual students' needs.
- Delivering engaging, student-centered instruction aligned with the CUNY Framework and Career Kit into the curricula
- Administering TABE assessments (certification required).
- Creating and adapting materials to support each student.
- Monitoring student progress, attendance, and assessments; providing feedback and support.
- Ensure that the classroom and school's atmosphere are conducive to maximum learning and retention of students.
- Participating in professional development (14 hours required per semester) and staff meetings.
- Meeting administrative deadlines and collaborating with program leadership.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field (required).
- Minimum 1 year teaching experience in Adult Education.
- Strong communication skills with culturally diverse learners.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Google Classroom, and Zoom.
