Boat Captain – Catalina Coast
We are seeking an experienced, safety-focused Boat Captain to operate a Boston Whaler while towing a banana boat along the beautiful Catalina coastline.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate and navigate the Boston Whaler in coastal waters
- Tow banana boat passengers while maintaining a fun, controlled experience
- Conduct pre-trip safety briefings and enforce all passenger safety rules
- Monitor weather, tides, vessel traffic, and changing sea conditions
- Perform pre-departure vessel and equipment inspections
- Confirm that life jackets, towlines, communication devices, and emergency equipment are serviceable
- Assist passengers with boarding and exiting the vessel
- Maintain trip, passenger, inspection, and incident records as required
- Keep the vessel clean, fueled, and ready for operation
- Respond calmly and effectively to emergencies
Qualifications
- Current USCG Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels credential (“Six-Pack” or OUPV license)
- Current CPR and First Aid certification
- Proven boat-handling experience in coastal and open-water conditions
- Experience towing inflatables or supporting recreational watersports strongly preferred
- Knowledge of navigation rules, marine weather, passenger safety, and emergency procedures
- Ability to pass any required background check, drug screening, or employer-mandated testing
- Valid credentials and endorsements required for the vessel, route, and operation
- Professional, dependable, and comfortable working with guests of varying ages and experience levels
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift and handle towlines, safety equipment, and other marine gear
- Able to work outdoors for extended periods in sun, wind, spray, and changing weather
- Able to safely assist passengers on and off the vessel
Position Details
- Location: Catalina coastline, California
- Schedule: [Seasonal/part-time/full-time], including weekends and holidays as needed
- Compensation: $33-36/hour
- Start date: ASAP
