We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Registered Nurse to join a progressive independent school community as a full-time School Nurse. This 12-month position plays a vital role in promoting the physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being of students from Preschool through Grade 8.
The School Nurse provides direct nursing care, manages student health records, ensures compliance with state health requirements, collaborates with faculty and families, and leads school-wide health and wellness initiatives.
Schedule
Full-time, 12-month position
Typical hours: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Occasional evening or weekend responsibilities for school events, trainings, and overnight trips
Assess and provide nursing care to students with illness or injury during the school day.
Administer medications and manage acute and chronic health conditions, including allergies and individualized care plans.
Conduct and follow up on required health screenings, including vision, hearing, growth, and immunization compliance.
Collaborate with school staff, families, and healthcare providers to support student health and well-being.
Monitor student illnesses, communicable diseases, and attendance related to health concerns.
Maintain electronic student health records and ensure accurate documentation.
Develop, implement, and maintain school health policies and procedures.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA, FERPA, state immunization requirements, and school health regulations.
Maintain confidential student medical records.
Manage health office supplies, first-aid equipment, and inventory.
Prepare annual health office budget recommendations.
Promote healthy lifestyle practices among students, families, and staff.
Support health education initiatives, including wellness, first aid, suicide prevention, and age-appropriate health education.
Coordinate CPR, AED, and First Aid certification and training programs for faculty and staff.
Assist with student CPR education programs.
Promote a safe and healthy school environment.
Participate in health and safety committees and emergency preparedness planning.
Support after-school programs, field trips, camps, and overnight events by coordinating medical planning and emergency preparedness.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
Previous school nursing, pediatric, family practice, or community health experience preferred.
Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
Knowledge of school health regulations, immunization requirements, and student health management.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities.
Comfortable working collaboratively with students, parents, faculty, and school leadership.
