Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Special Education Instructional Aide at Poage Elementary School. The ideal candidate will work closely with special education teachers to support students with diverse learning needs, fostering an inclusive and nurturing environment. This full-time position is essential in helping students achieve their academic and personal goals while promoting independence and self-advocacy.
Responsibilities
- Assist the special education teacher in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
- Provide one-on-one and small group support to students during classroom activities, ensuring they understand and engage with the curriculum.
- Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and participation, providing feedback to the teacher as needed.
- Support students with daily living skills, including personal care, social interactions, and communication.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other staff to create a positive and effective learning environment.
- Assist in the preparation of instructional materials and classroom resources tailored to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
- Implement behavioral management strategies and support students in developing appropriate social skills.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to special education.
- Maintain a safe and organized classroom environment, ensuring that all materials and equipment are accessible to students.
- Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and staff to promote a supportive school community.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or higher in education, special education, or a related field preferred.
- Previous experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of special education principles, IEPs, and behavioral management techniques.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and staff.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to help students succeed.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and take direction from teachers and other professionals.
- Proficient in basic computer skills and the use of educational technology.
- Must pass a background check and meet any state or district requirements for working with children.
- CPR and First Aid certification is a plus, or willingness to obtain certification upon hire.
