Job Description
MISSION:
Fosters, directly and indirectly, by action, example and training, a comprehensive safety program throughout the Structurals Division, at all locations. Monitors potential health and safety conditions of the workplace; identifies problems, recommends solutions, and ensures that the on-going safety system is corrected to incorporate the changes.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Participates in the development of SSBO safety goals and objectives. Develops recommendations for improvement of safety procedures, practices and activities that support these goals and objectives.
Assists with safety performance tracking and measurement system. Collaborates on a scheduled basis with management/departments to interpret the results and effect the corrective actions.
Provides safety committees with safety procedures, manuals, directives and other required information relative to safety. Serves as internal facilitator in using these tools to achieve the desired safety goals and objectives.
Collaborates with line supervision and safety committees in the development of required revisions to existing procedures, rules and regulations.
Keeps abreast with technical developments and OSHA related regulations that affect the safety considerations for operations. Incorporates new information into existing operations, where applicable.
Takes part in review of all serious disabling injuries/fatalities. Responsible for effective operations record keeping and OSHA document compliance.
Develops in conjunction with local safety committees, and maintains an effective local publicity program.
Serves as a member/advisor of operations safety committee for special duties and surveys.
Maintains knowledge of SSBO Program, manuals, rules and regulations and in proper communication of such programs, rules and regulations.
Assists and advises supervisory staff in proper administration of the SSBO Safety Program, including, but not limited to:
Management Commitment to Workplace Safety/Occupational Health
Committee meetings and employee involvement
Hazard assessment and control
Safety and occupational health planning
Accountability
Safety and occupational health training
Others as determined by the company
Discusses complaints and suggestions received in writing relating to safety conditions with the affected supervision.
By observation of physical conditions and work practices, detects lack of conformity with SSBO Safety Program and follows up with the appropriate Supervisor.
Provides technical training on observing unsafe acts to management and Supervision, and monitors the training effectiveness.
Handles first line performance issues as it relates to safety with employees in a respectful manner regarding safety issues. Notifies supervision when further action is required to improve safety performance.
Trains employees on new skills and works with employees to improve safety performance to satisfactory levels.
Coordinates resources to move from one team to help another when necessary to meet required safety goals.
May be required to complete Hazardous Waste Management Training.
May be required to handle hazardous waste.
