POSITION SUMMARY
The Career Pathways and Internship Coordinator serves as a strategic bridge between talent acquisition and employee development, focusing on new employee integration, internship program management, and career growth opportunities across the agency. This position designs and leads New Employee Orientation to ensure all new hires experience a welcoming, informative start to their careers. The role manages the organization's comprehensive internship program for Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral level students, serving as the primary liaison between academic institutions, students, clinical teams, and HR. Additionally, this position partners with staff throughout the organization to develop career pathway frameworks and succession planning tools that support employee growth and retention. The ideal candidate combines strong organizational skills with relationship-building abilities, program management expertise, and a passion for developing talent pipelines that support the organization's mission of providing exceptional behavioral health services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Design, coordinate, and facilitate comprehensive New Employee Orientation (NEO) programs that welcome, inform, and integrate new hires into the organization.
- Lead and present Human Resources and People Experience components of NEO including policies, procedures, benefits overview, systems training, and organizational culture expectations.
- Schedule and coordinate NEO contributions from other departments including Risk Management, Electronic Health Records (EHR), and program-specific orientations.
- Serve as primary liaison to universities and academic programs, building and maintaining relationships to recruit high-quality interns for Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral level internship programs.
- Collaborate with clinical teams and HR during peak academic recruiting periods to screen, interview, and select interns for paid internship positions.
- Coordinate all internship logistics including placement matching, start dates, supervisor assignments, onboarding processes, and ongoing communication with students and academic programs.
- Develop and implement robust rotation experiences for Bachelor-level interns to provide exposure to various aspects of working in a Certified Community Behavioral Health Center (CCBHC).
- Maintain ongoing communication with interns and academic programs from acceptance through program completion, ensuring successful placements and addressing concerns.
- Partner with HR recruitment team on the talent acquisition process, transitioning new hires from offer acceptance through successful onboarding and integration.
- Conduct follow-up check-ins with new employees at key intervals (30, 60, 90 days) to assess integration, identify support needs, and ensure successful transition.
- Collaborate with departments on program-specific and position-specific orientation components to ensure comprehensive onboarding beyond NEO.
- Support onboarding and integration efforts to ensure new employees feel welcomed, informed, and connected from day one.
- Design career pathway frameworks and visual graphics that illustrate growth opportunities and career progression options across the organization.
- Partner with leadership and staff on succession planning initiatives, identifying development needs and creating pathways for internal advancement.
- Identify trends from new hire and intern feedback, making recommendations for process improvements and referring employees to appropriate resources (Wellness, Employee Experience, OD, HR).
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to internships, NEO participation, and new hire integration progress.
- Stay current on academic program requirements, internship best practices, and onboarding trends to continuously enhance program effectiveness.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Psychology, Social Work, Business Administration, or related field preferred

Professional HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) or talent development certification (e.g., CPTD) preferred

Experience in recruitment, onboarding, talent development, or related field

Experience in behavioral health, healthcare, or nonprofit settings strongly preferred

Demonstrated experience developing and facilitating orientation and training programs

Experience managing internship or student programs, including university partnerships

Strong presentation and facilitation skills with diverse audiences

Experience with applicant tracking systems and HRIS platforms

Knowledge of academic program requirements and internship coordination

Project management experience with ability to manage multiple programs simultaneously

Successful completion of Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI), Central Registry, and other applicable background investigations and possess a valid Kansas driver's license
