Duties
- Perform comprehensive diagnostics using schematics and electrical testing tools to identify mechanical and electrical issues across heavy equipment and vehicles.
- Conduct repairs and maintenance on diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, suspensions, brakes, shocks & struts, HVAC systems, and air brake components.
- Fabricate parts or modifications using welding, soldering, hand tools, power tools, and fabrication techniques to meet specific operational needs.
- Service a variety of machinery including excavators, cranes, forklifts, tractors-trailers, farm machinery, industrial equipment, and automotive vehicles.
- Execute precise alignments and calibrations to ensure optimal performance of equipment such as wheel alignments or hydraulic system adjustments.
- Replace or repair tires through tire service procedures; perform heavy lifting safely during component replacements or assembly tasks.
- Maintain detailed records of repairs performed and parts used; interpret schematics for complex troubleshooting scenarios.
- Assist with assembly of new equipment or components; perform routine preventative maintenance to minimize downtime.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards by adhering to protocols related to vehicle maintenance and heavy equipment operation.
- Support customer service efforts by providing expert advice on repairs or maintenance needs when interacting with clients or team members.
Experience
- Proven mechanic experience with a strong background in heavy equipment operation and repair.
- Dealership experience is highly preferred due to familiarity with OEM parts and diagnostic procedures.
- Hands-on experience with fabrication techniques including welding and soldering.
- Knowledge of Caterpillar machinery or similar heavy-duty brands is advantageous.
- Proficiency in reading schematics, electrical diagrams, and technical manuals for troubleshooting complex systems.
- Skilled in automotive diagnostics with expertise in diesel engine repair, transmissions, suspension systems, HVAC systems, brakes (including air brake systems), hydraulics, shocks & struts.
- Familiarity with farm machinery maintenance as well as industrial equipment repair is a plus.
- Ability to operate power tools safely while performing repairs; experience with heavy lifting equipment is essential.
- Strong mechanical knowledge complemented by electrical experience related to service technician roles.
- Excellent customer service skills combined with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to clients or team members.
