August Uncommon Tea is a leading direct to consumer tea brand based in Monrovia, California. We’re seeking an experienced operations lead to join our team.
The Operations Lead’s primary role is to grow the business through optimization of processes, products and people.
The operations lead oversees all daily aspects of our facility, including operational strategy and process optimization, team leadership, warehouse operations, inventory management, fulfillment management, production management, sourcing, purchasing, and production. This is a hybrid role, with time on the warehouse floor and in the office.
This role is a leadership position that sets the tone for our entire team, leading morning meetings, fostering team work, and improving cohesion across departments. The operations lead will work closely with the founders to define KPIs, track progress, and continuously improve.

Key Responsibilities
- Inventory management: demand planning, stock optimization, stock takes, purchasing, receiving, process optimization.
- Supervise, measure and optimize two small teams: fulfillment and production.
- Work closely with finance-ops team to implement SOPs and track KPIs
- Machinery management: maximize efficiency of existing machinery. Recommend new machinery to improve efficiency and quality.
- Lead staff performance management and review process
- Manage vendor relationships, source and vet new vendors.
- Lead entry-level hiring and training
- Manage compliance with regulatory SOPs: GMP, Organic, etc.
- Lead in-house quality control protocols
Requirements
- 2+ years small business operations experience
- eCommerce / CPG operations strongly preferred
- Excellent communication and people leadership skills
- Excellent computer skills - total fluency working with software
- Strong analytical skills, keen eye for optimization
- Creative, adaptable problem solver comfortable with fast-changing situations
- Strong focus on growth and efficiency
- 8am-4pm on site at our facility in Monrovia, CA
- Must be physically capable of occasionally lifting loads of 55lbs
- Forklift operator
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree or greater
Preference given to candidates with the following skills:
- Familiarity in Cin7 Core
- Manufacturing supervision experience
- International logistics experience
- Previous food / CPG manufacturing experience
- Previous e-commerce operations experience
- Fluent spoken and written Mandarin
- Previous fulfillment center management experience
Pay: $51,176.17 - $61,631.52 per year
