Job Summary:
Progressive Surface, a leading provider of advanced surface enhancement solutions, is seeking a skilled and experienced CNC machinist to join our growing team in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of CNC machining principles and have practical working knowledge of Mazak INTEGREX multi-tasking machines, Haas vertical and horizontal mills, and Haas lathes. The programmer will be responsible for creating and optimizing CNC programs using Esprit Edge software to produce high-quality parts efficiently and accurately, supporting our production of critical components.
Responsibilities:
- Mazak INTEGREX, Haas vertical and horizontal mills, and Haas lathes using Esprit Edge CAM software.
- Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and specifications to determine the most efficient machining strategies.
- Select appropriate cutting tools, speeds, and feeds for various materials and machining operations, ensuring optimal surface finish and part integrity.
- Perform program simulations and prove-outs to ensure accuracy and prevent collisions, minimizing downtime.
- Troubleshoot and resolve programming issues and machining problems, maintaining production schedules.
- Collaborate with machinists, engineers, and quality control to improve manufacturing processes and part quality.
- Maintain accurate documentation of programs, tooling, and setup procedures, adhering to Progressive Surface's quality standards.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and quality standards.
- Optimize cycle times and improve production efficiency, supporting the timely delivery of customer orders.
- Manage and maintain Esprit Edge software, including tool libraries and post-processors.
- Optimize 5-axis machining on the Mazak Integrex and on the Haas horizontal mill.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of machining processes.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a CNC Machinist, preferably with Mazak INTEGREX and Haas machines.
- Strong proficiency in Esprit Edge CAM software.
- In-depth knowledge of CNC machining principles, G-code programming, and tooling selection.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, CAD models (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD), and specifications.
- Experience with 5-axis machining is highly desirable.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
- Formal technical education or relevant certifications are a plus.
- Practical hands on working knowledge of the Mazak Integrex i250HSN, Haas Vertical and Horizontal mills, and Haas Lathes.
- Practical hands on working knowledge of gauges and measuring devices to meet tolerance requirements.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with advanced machining techniques (e.g., high-speed machining, 5-axis simultaneous machining).
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
- Experience with tool management systems.
