We are building a best-in-class in-house billing department and seeking an experienced leader to help implement and scale our internal processes.
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Medical Biller with deep expertise in the California medical-legal billing environment, including Qualified Medical Evaluator (QME) and Independent Medical Examination (IME) billing. This role is both strategic and operational, requiring hands-on billing proficiency as well as leadership capabilities to build and manage a high-performing in-house billing team.
The ideal candidate will play a critical role in transitioning from outsourced billing to a fully integrated, proprietary in-house system.
Applicant must have extensive experience in SBR and IBR process.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end medical-legal billing processes, including QME and IME billing workflows
- Interpret and apply California workers’ compensation fee schedules and billing regulations
- Oversee charge capture, coding accuracy, submissions, and follow-up on accounts receivable
- Identify and resolve billing discrepancies, denials, and underpayments
- Lead the implementation and optimization of a proprietary in-house billing software
- Recruit, hire, train, and manage a team of medical billing professionals
- Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) and internal controls for billing operations
- Collaborate with physicians, legal staff, and administrative teams to ensure accurate documentation and billing compliance
- Monitor KPIs, reporting metrics, and revenue cycle performance
- Ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations
Qualifications
- Minimum 8+ years of medical billing experience within the California medical-legal system
- Demonstrated expertise in QME and IME billing processes and regulations
- Strong knowledge of California workers’ compensation fee schedules and billing guidelines
- Proven experience managing or building a billing team
- Experience implementing or working with billing software systems (proprietary systems a plus)
- Technologically savvy and able to use billing software
- Familiarity with electronic-first submissions via clearinghouses
- Experience working in Data Dimensions clearinghouse portal
- High attention to detail and strong analytical/problem-solving skills
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational abilities
- Ability to work on-site full-time in Marina del Rey
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience transitioning billing operations in-house
- Familiarity with lien processes and dispute resolution
- Background in scaling billing operations in a high-growth environment
