Position: Special Education Classroom Assistant (Full Time)
Reports to: Special Education Teacher/ Local Administration/ CEO
Qualifications:
- Minimum of two years of college or satisfactory completion of the Pennsylvania Department of Education Testing requirement for para-educators.

Knowledge of GSuite Applications: Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, etc.

Demonstrate an ability to facilitate communication among coworkers and students.

Must be able to evaluate problems, prioritize work and determine solutions.

Must possess and maintain valid Pennsylvania school clearances.
Job Overview: The Special Education Classroom Assistant works with teachers and other staff to support special education students individually or in a small group.
Responsibilities:

Help prepare, collect, and set-up materials for student participation, following teacher direction.

Assist individual students and groups of students by providing instructional and behavioral support under the direction of the teacher.

Maintain daily activity logs for individually assigned students.

Collect educational and behavioral data under the direction of the teacher.

Participate in implementing positive behavior support plans as assigned by the teacher.

Adapt classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom and student learning objectives.

Guide independent study, enrichment work, and modified assignments assigned by the teacher.

Assisting with the supervision of the student during meals, emergency drills, assemblies, transitioning between classrooms, play periods, or field trips.

Assisting with supervision of daily routine and schedule.

Supporting in a 1:1 role when necessary.

Assist students with personal care tasks.

Assist in implementing student behavior support plans and de-escalation strategies under the direction of the teacher and/or administration.

Support students during periods of emotional or behavioral dysregulation by utilizing approved de-escalation techniques and accompanying students to designated support or de-escalation areas when appropriate.

Assist in maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment by helping students regulate behavior and successfully return to instructional activities.

Operate and/or assist in using student mobility devices such as, but not limited to, walker, wheelchair, braces, canes, etc.

Adapt to the student’s mode of communication as necessary for instructional purposes.

Assist in implementing therapy programs developed by therapists, pathologists, and other staff.
Professional Obligations:
-
Assist with enforcing administration policies and rules governing students.

Attend staff meetings, and have the opportunity to serve on committees.

Adhere to Professional Standard of Conduct, including confidentiality, code of ethics, and appropriate internet use, as outlined in the Policy and Procedures manual and Staff Handbook.

Follow all approved board of trustee policies, including Financial and Purchasing, Attendance, RtII, and Curriculum Implementation.

Perform administrative duties such as assisting the school media center, hall, cafeteria monitoring, and bus loading and unloading.

Complete ongoing professional development, 20 hours annually.

Perform all additional related duties and responsibilities as designated by the Local Administration, CEO, or Network Team.
Terms of Employment: Ten (10) months. Contract terms and salary to be determined by the Board of Trustees.
