Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Tool and Die Maker/Machinist to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, fabricating, maintaining, and repairing precision tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and machining equipment essential to our production processes. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in CNC machining, toolroom operations, and mechanical blueprint interpretation, ensuring the highest standards of quality and efficiency. Duties
- Interpret mechanical blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings using GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) standards to produce accurate tooling components.
- Set up, operate, and program CNC machines such as CNC lathes and milling machines for tool fabrication and modifications.
- Utilize CAD software like AutoCAD and SolidWorks for designing tooling components and fixtures.
- Perform precision measurement using calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and other measurement instruments to ensure dimensional accuracy.
- Fabricate tools and dies through various processes including CNC machining, grinding, welding, electrical discharge machining (EDM), and fabrication techniques.
- Maintain and troubleshoot CNC equipment, grinders, stamping presses, and other machinery to ensure optimal performance.
- Conduct routine inspections of tools and dies for wear or damage; perform repairs or adjustments as needed.
- Collaborate with manufacturing teams to develop tooling solutions that improve production efficiency and quality.
- Maintain detailed documentation of tooling designs, modifications, maintenance activities, and inspection reports.
- Support shop math calculations related to measurements, tolerances, material properties, and machining parameters.
- Assist in the assembly of machined components into finished tools or dies with precision fitting techniques.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Tool & Die Maker or Machinist with a strong background in toolroom operations within a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in CNC programming languages such as G-code; experience with CAM programming is highly desirable.
- Extensive knowledge of CAD/CAM software including AutoCAD and SolidWorks for design purposes.
- Skilled in interpreting mechanical blueprints with GD&T annotations to ensure precise fabrication.
- Hands-on experience with CNC lathe and milling machines; familiarity with stamping presses is advantageous.
- Strong mechanical knowledge combined with the ability to read schematics and electrical diagrams related to machinery.
- Expertise in using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and gauges for quality control.
- Ability to perform maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting on complex machinery including grinders and EDM equipment.
- Knowledge of plastics injection molding processes is a plus for tooling applications involving plastics.
- Excellent shop math skills necessary for accurate measurements and calculations during fabrication.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently or collaboratively within a team environment while adhering to safety standards.
