For over 37 years, Safe Refuge is known for offering a complete continuum of care: from residential to outpatient drug and alcohol treatment so individuals may retake control of their lives.
At Safe Refuge, we believe everyone deserves the chance to recover from addictions to alcohol or drugs and so our programs are open to the population at large – not just those financially able to fund their own recovery. We also serve clients with combined mental health and addiction issues (co-occurring disorders).
Pay Range: $28.00 - $35.00 per hour (DOE)
Work Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 4 PM - 9 PM; Wednesday 1 PM - 6 PM (Days Off: Saturday & Sunday)
Minimum Qualifications:
- Prefer degree in the behavioral sciences from an institution of higher learning and at least 2 years’ experience in a community-based drug/alcohol treatment setting serving culturally/linguistically diverse populations of economically disadvantaged and homeless substance users.
Required Skills and Competencies:
- Must be a registered or certified counselor, who is compliant with the State of California, Counselor Certification Regulation (CCR), Title 9, Chapter 9, commencing with Section 13000 (Registered with one of the state approved bodies).
- Must be willing to travel to Long Beach 5 days per week.
- Must possess a valid California Driver’s License
- Must pass an extensive background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and educational verifications.
- Must have knowledge and experience in group counseling and supportive recovery services for people with substance abuse.
- Knowledge of HIV/AID, homelessness, correctional populations, and substance abuse related issues are required. Must possess basic knowledge, skills and abilities in office automation equipment and software including electronic health records-Exym experience is a plus, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet applications.

- Must be eligible and authorized to work in the United States
Duties:
- With participant input, conduct intake assessment; create individual Client-Centered Problem Lists/Treatment, Discharge and Transition Plans.
- Assure client linkage to needed services. Perform Individual, Care Coordination and Group Counseling; and perform Crisis Counseling as necessary.
- Must continuously maintain compliance with your certifying organizations Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics to ensure your ethical and legal requirements are adhered to at all times. Participate in weekly clinical supervision sessions.
- Maintain electronic and paper charts to ensure compliance with contractual guidelines and agency policy.
- Maintain relationships with community-based social services agencies and other service providers, through regular contacts and participating in agency networks and consortium as to maintain linkages to services.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook, personnel files and internal communications. Perform all other duties as assigned by direct supervisor.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Function:
Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function required of this position.
Supervisory Relationship:Work under the supervision of the Clinical Director.
Personal Qualities:
Must have a high degree of sensitivity to the agency's target populations, including substance abusers/users, correctional populations, persons with HIV/AIDS, LGBT community, the homeless, indigent and those with co-occurring disorders.
This position is not benefits-eligible. However, part-time employees are eligible for 40 hours of sick time and may participate in the company’s 401(k) plan.
