Human Resources Generalist
Salary: $65,000–$85,000 per year, based on experience
About the Role
We are a growing Michigan-based cannabis company operating in a highly regulated industry. We are looking for an experienced Human Resources Generalist to help build and improve the HR structure of our company.
This is a hands-on position for someone who can review our current HR practices, develop clear policies and procedures, ensure compliance with employment laws, and help create a fair and consistent work environment for our employees.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and update the company's employee handbook, policies, and procedures.
- Review current positions and create clear job titles, job descriptions, responsibilities, and reporting structures.
- Review and develop PTO, attendance, leave, disciplinary, and other employee policies.
- Ensure company policies and employment practices comply with applicable Michigan and federal employment laws and regulations.
- Review employee classifications, wage-and-hour practices, required documentation, and other HR compliance matters.
- Develop consistent processes for hiring, onboarding, performance reviews, corrective action, and employee termination/offboarding.
- Support management with employee relations, performance issues, workplace concerns, and disciplinary matters.
- Help create a workplace where employees are treated fairly and company policies are applied consistently.
- Maintain organized and confidential employee records and HR documentation.
- Identify gaps in our current HR processes and develop policies, procedures, and guidelines that support the company's future growth.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of Human Resources experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of HR policies, employment law, and workplace compliance.
- Experience creating or updating employee handbooks, policies, and job descriptions.
- Experience with employee relations, performance management, and HR documentation.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive employee matters professionally.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of HR projects.
- Michigan HR and employment law experience strongly preferred.
- Experience in cannabis, manufacturing, or another highly regulated industry is a plus, but not required.
- SHRM or PHR certification is a plus.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
