Veterinary Eye Specialists of Athens is a new, privately owned veterinary ophthalmology practice opening in the Athens, Georgia area. Founded by Georgia native and University of Georgia graduate Taylor Belk, DVM, DACVO, Veterinary Eye Specialists of Athens was created with a strong commitment to serving the community she has long called home. Our mission is to provide exceptional, compassionate specialty eye care while creating a supportive, respectful, and fulfilling environment for our team.
We are looking for a compassionate, motivated Veterinary Assistant who is excited to be part of building something special from the ground up.
This is a unique opportunity for someone who enjoys both hands-on patient care and meaningful client interaction. As a new practice, this role will initially be cross-functional, with responsibilities in both veterinary assisting and client care/reception. As the practice grows, the role will evolve based on the needs of the hospital and the strengths of the team member.
What You’ll Do
Veterinary Assistant Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, gentle, and low-stress care to patients
- Assist with patient restraint and preparation for examinations and procedures
- Assist the doctor and veterinary technician during ophthalmic examinations
- Prepare patients and equipment for diagnostic procedures and surgery
- Assist with patient care before, during, and after procedures
- Maintain clean, organized examination and treatment areas
- Clean, disinfect, and restock equipment and treatment spaces
- Help maintain accurate patient records and treatment documentation
- Learn and develop knowledge of veterinary ophthalmology and specialized equipment
- Support the veterinary technician and doctor in providing exceptional patient care
Client Care & Reception Responsibilities
- Welcome clients and patients warmly and professionally
- Answer phones and respond to client questions
- Schedule appointments and coordinate patient visits
- Assist with patient check-in and check-out
- Collect payments and process transactions
- Communicate with referring veterinary hospitals as needed
- Assist with prescription and medication coordination
- Help maintain accurate client and patient information
- Communicate treatment plans and discharge instructions clearly and compassionately
- Help create a welcoming, organized, and positive client experience
What We’re Looking For
- Previous veterinary assistant or veterinary hospital experience preferred
- Experience in a veterinary reception or customer service role is a plus
- Compassionate, patient, and gentle approach to animal care
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Comfortable interacting with clients in person and over the phone
- Ability to learn new medical concepts, technology, and practice-management systems
- Positive attitude and willingness to take on a variety of responsibilities
- Ability to work independently while also being a collaborative team member
- Strong work ethic and genuine passion for veterinary medicine
- A desire to learn and grow alongside a new practice
Experience in veterinary ophthalmology is not required. We are happy to train the right person who is enthusiastic about learning and developing new skills.

Compensation
$20-22/hour, based on experience
