Job description The Great Commoner is hiring for its barista & pastry counter team in downtown West Dearborn! Inspired by French and Mediterranean cuisine, this restaurant & cafe features a full kitchen, dine-in service, cafe lounge area, and a delicious menu of freshly baked croissants, exquisite handcrafted pastries, delicious brunch items, house-made salads and sandwiches, a full coffee menu, and now a New Dinner concept Coming Soon 6 Nights a Week called Mina.! MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE
- Delivering excellent customer service
- Assisting guests in selection of pastry, bread, and coffee items
- Showcasing pastry display
- Following daily processes and procedures checklists
- Monitoring/restocking cafe items as necessary
- Handling transactions
- Preparing and serving hot and cold drinks, including espresso, coffee, and tea beverages
- Maintaining clean and organized work and dining areas
- knowledge in Latte Art is a Plus
You must be:
- Comfortable interacting with guests
- Quick on your feet and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Ready to deliver superior customer service
- Enthusiastic about food and coffee and have experience with working in a coffeehouse
- Have familiarity or experience with operating an espresso machine; or high aptitude and willingness to learn
- Willing to learn and share knowledge of menu items with guests
- An excellent communicator, team player, and promoter of a safe and respectful work environment
We have full-time/part-time positions available and offer flexible hours.Food industry (e.g. barista, retail, cafe) experience required.Pay: $21.00 to $ 30.00 per hour with Tips is expected on average (Effective rate of pay with tips might be more or less plus per hour!)Job Types: Part-time, Full-time Pay: $13.75 to $16.00 per hour to start plus tips. Tips average between $7.00 TO $15.00 per hour depending on the day and the volume.

A completely renovated space in what was once the historic Wagner Hotel, the restaurant is equipped with state of the art technology and designed with style and comfort in mind. Our goal is to provide the most excellent experience for our guests with offerings of modernly flavorful cuisine's and ultimate convenience. As a new establishment, we hope to cultivate an atmosphere for employees to feel valued and encouraged to be the best at what they do. Our Cafe Associates are expected to handle carryout, answer phones, be cashiers, be servers, prepare all types of hot and cold drinks for guests with an emphasis on accuracy and speed. Having quality in mind, cafe associates should be able to prep food items for their station and keep them stocked throughout a shift. Adequate knife skills are recommended and proper drink making technics/ etiquette is required. A Barista must be able to maintain the upkeep of their station and equipment used during each shift while focusing on practicing safe hygiene. Willingness to listen and learn from other experienced workers is beneficial to anyone interested in this position.
