ON.energy is building the power infrastructure that makes the AI era possible. As AI demand surges past what the grid and traditional data centers can support, ON.energy provides a new class of power technology proven at gigawatt scale and trusted by the world's leading cloud and AI companies. Our systems are already deployed across 2.5 GW of hyper-scale campuses, validated by top U.S. national labs, and certified for grid-safe operation by major utilities. With real products in the field, we're scaling faster than the grid can, transforming power from a bottleneck into a competitive advantage for the companies building the future.
This is a remote based role, with occasional travel expected.
Position Summary
ON.energy is seeking a Reliability & Procedures Engineer to strengthen how our fleet of utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) is maintained and troubleshot in the field. This role sits at the intersection of engineering analysis and field operations: reviewing how reactive work orders were resolved, translating those resolutions into clear, repeatable procedures, and ensuring lessons learned are captured in our CMMS so the same problem is never solved twice. The ideal candidate is an electrical engineering graduate who is curious about how equipment fails, comfortable working directly with field technicians, and motivated to turn scattered troubleshooting knowledge into a durable, scalable body of technical documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Review completed reactive work orders to understand how issues were diagnosed and resolved in the field.
- Build new maintenance and troubleshooting procedures, and revise existing ones, so recurring issues can be resolved consistently and efficiently going forward.
- Build and update procedures directly within Limble, ensuring they are accurate, accessible, and actionable for field technicians.
- Proactively seek out and incorporate feedback from field service technicians to identify gaps in current procedures and opportunities for new ones.
- Support troubleshooting efforts on active equipment issues, escalating or contributing engineering judgment as needed.
- Analyze equipment failure data to identify trends by equipment type, site location, vintage, manufacturer, or other contributing factors.
- Translate failure trend analysis into clear, well-supported reports for OEM partners (warranty and quality escalation) and senior leadership (reliability performance and recommendations).
- Maintain organized documentation of procedure revisions, version history, and the rationale behind each change.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- 0–5 years of relevant experience; new graduates with strong fundamentals are encouraged to apply.
- Working knowledge of electrical systems, power electronics, or industrial/utility equipment fundamentals.
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to translate technical troubleshooting steps into clear, field-ready procedures.
- Analytical mindset with comfort working in Excel or similar tools to identify patterns and trends in failure data.
- Comfortable engaging directly with field technicians to gather feedback and validate procedure changes.
- Comfort working directly within a CMMS platform (e.g., Limble) to create and maintain procedure records; prior hands-on experience is a plus but not required.
- Ability to manage multiple procedure and analysis workstreams concurrently.
