About the Role
Brown and Caldwell is seeking a Construction Inspector to support infrastructure projects through field observation, documentation, and coordination. This role helps ensure construction work complies with approved plans, specifications, codes, and permits.
The position supports a range of inspection activities including site inspections, daily reporting, and coordination with project teams. This role is suited for individuals developing their inspection skills as well as those with prior experience who can contribute with increasing independence.
This role is designed to support both developing and more experienced inspectors, with responsibilities scaled based on experience and demonstrated capability.
Responsibilities
- Monitor construction work progress and assist in documenting daily activities.
- Perform routine site inspections to support compliance with approved plans, specifications, codes, and permits.
- Assist in preparing daily reports, including weather, equipment, labor, and construction activities; contribute to monthly reporting.
- Create inspection documentation utilizing varied construction information management systems
- Support the review and tracking of change orders, invoices, and payment applications under guidance.
- Maintain organized records of construction activities, contingency and field charges.
- Participate in commissioning, testing, and start-up activities under supervision.
- Assist in preparing project documentation and close-out materials.
- Review design and bidding documents for clarity and completeness with support from senior staff.
- Identify and report potential risks or issues in the field to project leads.
- Coordinate with contractors, consultants, and internal teams to support issue resolution.
- Flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs.
Mentorship
- May provide mentorship, guidance, support, and knowledge-sharing to help less experienced team members develop their skills and grow within their roles.
Skills and Competencies
- Working knowledge of construction materials, methods, and applicable codes and standards.
- Ability to read and interpret basic construction plans and specifications.
- Foundational verbal and written communication skills for coordination with project teams.
- Ability to follow inspection protocols and document findings accurately.
- Core knowledge of safety requirements
- Ability to walk around a construction site of varying size and topography to perform inspections and ability to stand for several hours observing and documenting critical construction activities
Experience
- Typically, a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in construction inspection or related field is required.
- Previous construction experience
Education
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
- NASSCO PACP, MACP, or LACP certification
- ICC or related inspection certifications
- Experience with water, wastewater, or civil infrastructure projects
- Familiarity with construction management or inspection software
- OSHA safety training
Work Environment
- Field-based role with regular site visits throughout the Phoenix metro area

Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.
Location A: $59,000 - $79,000
Location B: $64,000 - $87,000
Location C: $70,000 - $95,000
