Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly Rate: $33.82 per hour/40 hour work week.

Performance Responsibilities
Custodians are responsible for the care and cleaning of assigned areas within Plainville School Buildings. The employee keeps their area neat, clean, and safe from hazards at all times.
As an evening custodian, you are typically the first point of contact for staff members and the public using our buildings for sports, events, and meetings. Custodians are required to assist with regards to set up/tear down and other requests with a positive customer service approach while working within the district. The employee performs other duties that relate to the position of custodian as assigned by the Facilities Manager or Facilities Director.
Duties
- Floor Maintenance: Stripping, waxing, dusting, mopping, buffing, burnishing, carpet vacuuming, shampooing, and extraction.
- Sanitation: Washing walls, windows, doors, drinking fountains, and bottle fillers daily and/or as needed. Daily disinfecting and cleaning of all bathroom fixtures and surfaces.
- Waste Management: Gathering all trash from the building to dispose of properly into designated dumpsters, strictly following recycling policies.
- Minor Maintenance: Performing minor repair duties including, but not limited to, changing ceiling tiles and light bulbs.
- Security: Performing security functions including, but not limited to, locking and unlocking doors and windows, and activating/deactivating alarms at the beginning and end of shifts as required.
- Upkeep: Cleaning and maintaining custodial equipment, supplies, and custodial closets. Transporting boxes of supplies to and from various areas in the buildings.
- Seasonal Grounds Care: Periodically operating a weed whacker, leaf blower, and snow blower/thrower. Employee will shovel, spread salt/sand, and occasionally chop ice if needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in custodial work preferred.
- Able to understand written and verbal instructions, including chemical product labels and dilution rates.
- Experience with making minor repairs/upkeep to custodial equipment preferred.
- Must be able to reach high and low surfaces to perform custodial functions.
- Position requires frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, twisting, and climbing.
- Able to lift objects weighing 50 pounds and push or pull objects weighing more than 50 pounds.
