Gatehouse Administration Center
Summary
Monitors the fire and intrusion detection and alarm systems of all Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) facilities; coordinates communication with Fairfax County fire and police agencies and FCPS schools and offices; maintains accurate and complete logs.
Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate.

Some experience in general office administration.

Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience.

Knowledge of, and/or ability to quickly learn, the operation of an electronic/audio fire and intrusion detection system.

Knowledge of, and/or ability to quickly learn, the location of FCPS schools and to read and interpret building diagrams, including detector locations.

Ability to operate a computer, peripheral equipment, and related software.

Ability to work under pressure and handle crisis situations.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Major Duties/Essential Functions
- Provides continuous monitoring of the Silent Knight central electronic/audio fire and intrusion detection/alerting system.

Upon receiving an alarm signal, either contacts the appropriate FCPS security and/or Fairfax County fire or police agencies or makes a decision concerning the appropriate action to take to resolve the issue.

Maintains a log of all calls.

Maintains a file of incident reports.

Monitors fire drills of all FCPS facilities and follows established guidelines to prevent the unnecessary response of fire units.

Enters into the Silent Knight computer system pertinent data on each alarm and maintains records, as required.

Periodically compiles and generates required and ad hoc reports from the Silent Knight database.

Coordinates with the Department of Information Technology, Field Services section, personnel on security intrusion zone changes and installation of new security devices.

Ensures Silent Intrusion System (SIS) zone maps are correct and updated regularly.

Prepares backup files.

Checks unrestored signals and performs general office support and serves as a backup in the utilization of computer entry, retrieval, and printing tasks.

Performs related duties as required or assigned.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements
This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
