Paraprofessionals play an important role in supporting students, teachers, and classrooms. Positions may be available in both general education and special education settings.

Supporting classroom instruction and student learning

Working with individual students or small groups

Assisting students with academic, behavioral, social, or communication needs

Helping maintain a positive and safe learning environment

Supervising students during classroom and school activities

Supporting students with daily living or mobility needs, depending on assignment

Other duties as assigned
Assignments vary by building and student needs. Positions may include working with elementary, intermediate, middle school, or high school students.

High school diploma or equivalent required, and depending on position:

Complete 48 hours at an institution of higher education OR
-
Obtain an associate’s (or higher) degree OR
-
Pass a State approved Paraprofessional assessment*

Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance

Kansas Certification of Health
Experience working with children or individuals with special needs is helpful, but not required for all positions.
