Our Environmental Assessment discipline comprises environmental scientists and biologists who navigate local, state, and federal National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) regulations and permitting for primarily public-sector projects, including Departments of Transportation (DOTs) and local governments.
Key Responsibilities: Environmental Assessment interns will be expected to perform the following key responsibilities with supervision and assistance from a Hanson professional:

Prepare NEPA documentation primarily for categorical exclusion-level projects but also environmental assessments and environmental impact statements

Gather and provide data for the preparation of environmental reports and studies

Assist in conducting various environmental field surveys including threatened and endangered species habitat surveys, tree identification, stream characterizations, and wetland delineations

Utilize software packages such as ArcGIS Pro for environmental data gathering and exhibit creation

Assist in the preparation of environmental permit applications

Perform related duties such as writing memoranda, letters, or general reports; collecting and correlating data; maintaining records; attending meetings; and operating technical equipment.
Qualifications:
- Interns must be actively enrolled in a relevant field of study such as Environmental Science, Environmental Biology, Natural Resources, Biology, Ecology, or Environmental Engineering.

The ideal candidate will have completed their sophomore year, be enrolled in an accredited 4-year college or university and be familiar with Geographic Information System software.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office

Valid driver’s license
This position can be located in the following offices: Indianapolis, IN; St. Louis, MO; or Springfield, IL.
The hourly range for this position is $21 - $26 per hour for undergraduates and $30 - $40 per hour for postgraduates.
