Position Summary
AQS is seeking an experienced SMT Technician to support our Surface Mount Technology (SMT) production operations on the 2nd shift. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with SMT equipment setup, operation, troubleshooting, and process optimization in a high-mix electronics manufacturing environment.
The SMT Technician will be responsible for ensuring efficient production flow, maintaining quality standards, supporting machine programming and setup activities, and troubleshooting equipment to minimize downtime.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and maintain SMT production equipment, including:
- Solder paste printers
- Pick-and-place machines
- Reflow ovens
- Feeders and support equipment
- Perform feeder setup, verification, and changeovers.
- Load machine programs and make necessary adjustments to improve placement accuracy and production efficiency.
- Perform solder paste stencil setup, alignment, and printing operations.
- Monitor and optimize SMT production processes to ensure quality and throughput objectives are met.
- Troubleshoot machine, feeder, and process-related issues to minimize downtime.
- Verify component placement, polarity, and overall assembly quality.
- Identify and handle surface mount components accurately.
- Read and interpret Bills of Materials (BOMs), assembly drawings, work instructions, and manufacturing documentation.
- Perform first article verification and assist with setup validation.
- Ensure compliance with IPC-A-610 workmanship standards.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and process optimization efforts.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Work closely with Engineering, Quality, and Production teams to resolve manufacturing issues.
- Follow all company policies, safety requirements, and quality procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of SMT experience in an electronics manufacturing environment.
- Experience operating SMT production equipment.
- Knowledge of:
- SMT assembly processes
- Solder paste printing
- Component placement
- Reflow soldering
- Ability to identify and handle SMT components and packaging formats.
- Ability to read and understand:
- Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Assembly drawings
- Work instructions
- Manufacturing documentation
- Basic machine troubleshooting skills.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Familiarity with IPC-A-610 workmanship standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- IPC-A-610 Certification.
- Experience with high-mix, low-to-medium volume production environments.
- Experience supporting NPI (New Product Introduction) builds.
- Knowledge of SMT machine programming and optimization.
- Experience with AOI and SPI systems.
Pay: $20.00 - $28.00 per hour
