Duties
- Safely operate vehicles including transit vans or Transit buses in accordance with traffic laws and company policies
- Assist passengers with boarding, alighting, and wheelchair assistance, ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the journey
- Follow emergency response procedures for transportation, including CPR and first aid protocols when necessary
- Maintain communication with dispatchers and clients via radio or mobile devices to coordinate pick-ups and drop-offs efficiently
- Conduct vehicle safety checks before each shift, including inspections for vehicle codes, brakes, lights, and wheelchair securement equipment
- Adhere to transportation safety regulations and school policy knowledge when transporting children or vulnerable populations
- Respond quickly to traffic changes or road hazards to ensure timely arrivals while prioritizing passenger safety and behavior management
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and appropriate commercial or passenger endorsement as required by local laws
- Proven experience driving buses, transit vehicles, or school buses; experience working with children or seniors is highly preferred
- Knowledge of traffic laws, defensive driving techniques, emergency stop procedures, and transportation safety regulations
- Ability to lift heavy objects such as wheelchairs or mobility aids safely and efficiently
- Strong communication skills in English for effective interaction with passengers, dispatchers, and team members
- Certification in first aid and CPR is preferred; willingness to obtain if not already certified
- Familiarity with child care, senior care, behavior management strategies, and student discipline policies is advantageous
- Demonstrated ability to respond quickly to traffic changes and emergency situations with calmness and professionalism
