Staff Accountant
Property Management & Real Estate Investment | Memphis, TN | Full-Time, Salary-Exempt
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a Staff Accountant to own the day-to-day accounting for an assigned portfolio of multifamily properties. This role handles the full accounting cycle — from transaction entry through monthly financial packages — and works closely with property managers and the corporate team.
Growth Opportunity: This position is designed as a pathway to leadership. The right candidate will have the opportunity to grow into the Controller role within the next two years, with mentorship and increasing responsibility along the way.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare monthly financial statement packages for an assigned portfolio, verifying accuracy before delivery
- Prepare and post journal entries; maintain the general ledger through month-end close
- Complete balance sheet reconciliations, bank reconciliations, and supporting schedules
- Process accounts payable, generate invoices, and manage vendor setup and ACH records
- Reconcile daily deposits, security deposit accounts, and corporate credit cards
- Monitor escrow and replacement reserve accounts; assist with mortgage and real estate tax filings
- Research and explain budget variances and unusual items on the income statement and balance sheet
- Partner with property managers to resolve coding discrepancies and answer financial questions
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- 3+ years of accounting experience; property management or real estate experience preferred
- Solid understanding of GAAP, general ledger systems, and the full accounting cycle
- Advanced Excel skills; experience with property accounting software (e.g., ResMan, Yardi, AppFolio) a plus
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Clear communicator who works well with property teams, vendors, and management
Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
