Unleash your passion for Healthy Living & Movement and inspire the next generation with Serious Fun!
Who We Are
Serious Fun After School is a non-profit organization that provides affordable arts enrichment and after school programming to NYC public schools in Queens, NY.
We Create Fun – We Are Kind – We Foster Excellence – We Believe In Balance
What You’ll Do
As a Get Moving Instructor at Serious Fun, you will lead children in engaging, hands-on exploration of physical fitness, movement, and healthy living through active games, movement experiences, and interactive activities designed to build confidence and coordination rather than teach competitive sports. You will help students build confidence, teamwork, and self-esteem while developing coordination, balance, endurance, and healthy lifestyle habits. Ensuring the emotional and physical well-being of each student during class activities is a top priority. Through positive teaching styles and encouragement, you will guide and empower students as they develop a lifelong appreciation for physical activity and wellness. You will develop quarterly lesson plans and will be supported by a Group Teacher during class time. The Enrichment Fitness Instructor is supervised onsite by the Site Supervisor and reports directly to the Enrichment Coordinator.
You will:
- Create engaging activities that foster the development of new physical skills in children while building on prior knowledge.
- Lead developmentally appropriate games, movement activities, and fitness challenges that promote coordination, balance, endurance, strength, and teamwork.
- Incorporate interactive lessons that introduce healthy habits, nutrition awareness, and the importance of making positive choices to support lifelong wellness.
- Ensure that classroom guidelines are fair, clear, and easy to understand.
- Design the physical layout of your class (within the space available) that best supports positive behavior and safe movement.
- Confidently model positive behavioral management skills for the Group Teacher supporting you.
- Ensure the safety and security of all participants while in your classroom and during transitions.
- Assist your Serious Fun colleagues in the smooth operation of the program, lending a helping hand when needed, especially during transitions.
- Complete 15 hours of professional development each calendar year, as well as attend all meetings, training workshops, and special events (maximum four (4) per quarter) as required.
- Complete background checks, fingerprints, medical, etc. as required by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (NYS OCFS).
