Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced Landscape Construction Foreman to lead crews on residential and commercial installation projects. You will be responsible for the day-to-day execution of job sites, ensuring work is completed on time, on budget, and to a high standard. The ideal candidate has hands-on construction experience, a genuine knowledge of California native plants, and the leadership skills to motivate a crew and represent Grounded Landscapes well in front of clients.
Key Responsibilities
Crew Leadership
- Lead a crew on landscape construction job sites
- Assign daily tasks, set the pace, and maintain a safe, professional work environment
- Train and mentor crew members on proper installation techniques and plant handling
- Communicate job site progress and issues to the project manager
Landscape Construction
- Install hardscape elements including pathways, patios, boulders, and drainage systems, extensive masonry and carpentry experience is preferred
- Plant California native trees, shrubs, perennials, and groundcovers according to plan specifications
- Install irrigation systems (drip and spray) and perform troubleshooting
- Install low voltage lighting
- Install rainwater capture systems
- Perform grading, soil preparation, and mulching to support plant establishment
- Read and interpret landscape design plans, construction documents, and planting schedules
Native Plant Expertise
- Identify and properly handle a wide range of California native species
- Apply knowledge of native plant establishment, seasonality, and water requirements
- Advise the team on best practices for native plant installation
Job Site Management
- Manage daily material and equipment needs; coordinate deliveries with the office
- Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles in good working order
- Ensure job sites are clean, organized, and meet safety standards at all times
- Track crew hours and material usage for project reporting
What We’re Looking For
- 3+ years of landscape construction experience, with at least 1 year in a lead or foreman role
- Demonstrated knowledge of California native plants (species ID, planting, establishment)
- Experience with hardscape installation, irrigation, and grading
- Ability to read landscape design plans and follow all construction document specifications
- Strong leadership and communication skills—bilingual (English/Spanish)
- Valid California driver’s license with clean driving record; ability to tow a trailer preferred
- Physical ability to perform demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions
- Related certifications a plus but not required
Compensation & Benefits
- $70,000 – $90,000 per year, depending on experience
