Position Summary
The Sit-Down Forklift Operator / Expeditor is responsible for safely transporting structural steel materials throughout the manufacturing facility to support production operations. This position ensures fitters, welders, and fabrication teams have the materials needed to maintain workflow and production schedules.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate a sit-down forklift to move structural steel beams, tubing, plate, and other materials throughout the facility.
- Deliver materials to fitters, welders, and fabrication personnel according to production priorities.
- Stage materials for upcoming jobs and production runs.
- Move completed assemblies and finished products to designated areas within the plant or yard.
- Load and unload incoming and outgoing steel shipments.
- Safely maneuver long and heavy materials through narrow aisles and active production areas.
- Verify material identification and quantities against work orders and production schedules.
- Assist with organizing inventory and maintaining material locations.
- Communicate with supervisors, foremen, welders, and fitters to ensure efficient material flow.
- Perform daily forklift inspections and report equipment issues immediately.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment while following all company safety policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of sit-down forklift experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, or structural steel environment.
- Previous experience handling structural steel beams, tubing, plate, or other heavy materials preferred.
- Ability to safely transport long loads and maneuver through active production areas.
- Experience supporting welders, fitters, or fabrication operations preferred.
- Ability to read work orders, tags, and material identification markings.
- Strong attention to safety and detail.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
- Ability to safely operate forklifts around employees, equipment, and production machinery.
Pay: From $20.00 per hour
